New GEC #14 Boys Knife

Macchina,

Thanks for your reply. I had likewise thought the bolsters, liners, and pins on the #14 are carbon. Then I read on a dealer's website that they are stainless. I e-mailed Chris at GEC and she confirmed that the bolsters, liners, and pins are indeed stainless.

Maybe we were both thinking of the original #15s---weren't the bolsters, liners, and pins on those carbon, or is my memory even worse than I thought? :o

Andrew

I did not know this, thanks for the correction! I was ASSuMEing it was the same as the all-steel #15 knives...

A really pocketable knife and the blade size is nearly the same as the scout.

Hi Guys, a quick one...those of you who have a single blade ones...are your backsprings flush when on the half stop position?

If anyone has a #14 and a #66, would you be willing to post a couple size comparison pics? :)

Thank you!

I really like the way the Boys Knives turned out. I am torn if I want to add a 2blade OD Micarta or Ebony. I think I like these better than the Barlow stylings. I am wondering if any of the guys lucky enough to get a TC are feeling the same way.
We heard all along how little quantity there were of the #14 TC's yet there seems to be a never-ending stream of them in the exchange.

Not a one; they all sit noticeably proud in the half-stop position (Boy's Knives and the TC's). Thankfully it doesn't bother me at all, since they're all perfectly flush closed and fully open, and the only time I ever really have a knife in the half-stop position is for a split second when I'm opening or closing it.

Yes and no. The Antique Yellow Boy's Knife is probably my favorite of all of them, and I actually think I prefer the short bolster to the Barlow bolster. That being said, the Copperhead Sawcut and the Smooth Antique Yellow are amazing.

I'm also debating a two-blade Boy's Knife. Waiting to see what the blue jigged bone looks like. I also like the Antique Yellow with the Lick Creek blade etch (Lyle's SFO), but I don't even know where to get that one (PM's welcome).

Yep, Rotten Banana Bone. As has been hashed over elsewhere, the original RBB was an accident and accidents are hard to reproduce. It does have some mottling but not a lot. I have an 83 in Yellow Rose. The 83 seems to be bright yellow while the 14 is cloudy if that makes sense.
