new GEC Templar

William, Im sorry, but for the very first time Im going to argue with you on that :), I can see that Bolster treatment on Ebony and also jigged bone.

They won't be out in ebony or jigged bone unfortunately--only "man made materials". TSA is listing kryptonite (?), black gold perylic, stained glass, and black micarta.

You can't get this style anywhere else in a production knife. I for one, like it and look forward to some different scale treatments. I don't care much for the name, but I do like the knife.

I'm holding out for the Mameluke series...(Aside from the earlier referenced locking version). ;)

Yeah, and after that the "Marmaduke" series ..... ('fraid it'll be kinda doggy though). ;) :D

Careful, Keith, I don't even want to think of what they'll use as a bolster and cap on that set! :p

I'm realy digging this one it's a little strange but not too outlandish, it's definitly not a knife offered by a mainstream company I realy admire GEC's ability to think a little bit outside of the box.

Then I think no, I wouldn't go for it, as the "hinged" look bolsters are an old look-no matter what you do with them, and the mix with some of ( the very cool ) acrylics etc...just wont blend...its too much for a traditional styled knife.
My thoughts if I was to ( try ) to improve the look from the op knife, would be to add the Ebony and Jigged Bone option , but also to angle off the rivet heads...try to imagine the old English doors with the "hexed" nail heads that were used in those days?..if you fashioned the rivet heads in a subtle manner in that style, it would flow with the look of the bolsters.

Sorry Willgoy :o

I totally agree... its odd that they are going only acrylic, because the only way this design could work for me is with wood.

These bolsters with colored acrylic is like mixing the 60's and 70's with the old west. That works about as well as pickle flavored ice cream.:barf:

You clearly are just not pregnant enough to appreciate this knife.

Back on topic, I think the bolsters will work best, out of the scale materials listed, with black micarta. I imagine it'll look pretty classy.

this design was done in past by case & i believe ka-bar , first looks at the pattern are on the fence. sometimes more exposure makes it more appealing. acrylics are certainly strong enough to support the bolsters & pins but i would like to see it in woods.--dennis

Can a locking version be far behind?

Similar to an inkjet printer which doesn't include the USB cable, the lock will be available as a separate purchase. It is a proprietary design and will not work with locks from other manufacturers. Also, the lock will become obsolete within a year and you'll need to upgrade if you want to continue receiving support.

Pulled the trigger on one...in Green Kryptonite...it really should look like Pickle Flavored Ice Cream.

. . . . . . . . .a pregnant pause. . . . . . . . . . . .

I like the knife. It has courthouse steps braggin' rights. After all, the missionary position ain't the only . . . . .which forum is this again? ? ? ?
:D

Surprisingly, the color which I thought I would like the least, Green Kryptonite, I actually like the best. Best, however, does not necessarily = purchase.

I agree with many here. I am not to keen on the Templar knite, I mean knife, but if they keep trying, they will come up with a new pattern with a "traditional feel" and then we will be chompin at the bit to buy it. Way to go GEC!

Maybe they can put a combo lock on this one.

I appreciate them breaking the mold... I actually do like what they were trying to do with the design, but its just not my cup of tea. I actually think with a few tweaks it could be quite tempting. I think this design could really use some wood, but maybe they were afraid of the barn door thing.
