new guy here --

Ken
Welcome to world of Knifemaking. I have found out in my short time. Knifemakers are the greatest people to be around. Got your Email.

Welcome Ken, it's great to have someone of your talent and experience join the forum! I've always looked at engraving and been overwhelmed by it both from an artistic/creative standpoint and from a technical standpoint. It's something I'd like to try someday, but would have no idea where to start.

Is there a particular beginner's book, simple set of tools, approach, etc. that you would recommend for someone who wanted to get a taste of engraving?

Paul, give me a call and I'll try and help you out. It's something I can better explain via a conversation with you. Ken 910-221-5288

Thanks Ken, that's a very generous offer! When (day and time) is typically a good time to reach you?

Mr. Paul, I'm in the shop seven days a week/10-12 hours a day --- call anytime. Oh yeah, but not between 1:40 PM and 2:30 PM today as I gotta get my main trimmed or the wife will be mad as hell at me. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you. Ken

Hi Ken - Travis and Bob Ham have told me a lot of good things about you. We spoke on the phone briefly a while back. Welcome to the forum, please stick around, it's nice to have such a talented individual here.

CAP --- nice to hear from you. Yeah, I had a great time visiting with those guys here at the shop as well as at Travis's shop --- learned a little about fine knife making & alots about just how much I don't know ! That danged Travis got me very interested/hooked into knives. AAt the moment, I have purchased a Mike Alsdorf pearl inlayed folder & am waiting for another folder & skinner. Am talking with Blacktoe knives re. a all stainless handled folder for gold inlay & engraving. You know how it is, once you get hooked, you can never own to many knives. Problem with this (for me) isthat all these knives will have to be engraved , gold wire inlayed, gold bird-animal-etc. inlayed. This is really going to take a bite out of time reserved for client work "IF" I allow it. In as much as this is my livelyhood, guess this won't happen BUT, I'll still find a few hours each week to engrave on one of mine.

In the event that you are ever over/down my way, please stop ion for a visit --- would like to meet you in person. This also applies to any others traveling in eastern N.C. ---- all are welcome. My shop is open & running seven days a week, 10-12 hours a day. Ken

REMEMBER -- NO SACRIFICE IS TO GREAT FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO MAKE - lol
