New Guy in the Shop

Welcome aboard Kyle! Anxious to see your future contributions to this phenomenal group of knife makers and from what I gather thus far, a genuine bunch of good dudes.

I couldn't put it better myself. I feel very fortunate for the opportunity to be rubbing elbows with the massive talent walking around the shop every day.

Aaaaaand they're also a pretty good bunch of fellas too.

Welcome Kyle! I really dig some of your first knife designs, particularly the 4 in the tray.

OT question - I have a guitar with sentimental value that has a very warped neck that I would like to try to make semi-playable again. Who in the east valley would you recommend for repair, truss rod adjustment and setup?

Thanks, Phillip

Hi Phillip,

Honestly when I was in Arizona I was learning to build guitars so everyone just fixed their own stuff but if you are close to Roberto-Venn in Phoenix I would call them and see if they know. Those guys are experts in the field and seriously skilled. They may be able to help you with it but at very least they should know a trustworthy place to take your instrument. Depending on how bad the warp actually is sometimes you can get away with re-fretting with very tall jumbo frets and you will have a level surface for set-up. If the neck is actually warped beyond that fix then the guitar needs surgery. Meaning the fingerboard must be removed, the neck steamed and flattened, and then re assembled. If it was me I would also take the chance to instal carbon fiber rods alongside the truss rod to keep the neck straight (if the neck has enough meat to do so of course) and drop in a nice two way truss rod for good measure. A good re-fret should run about $350 and that surgery would probably float closer to $800, maybe more.

I hope that is helpful, best of luck! If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to send em my way.

Hey Kyle, glad to see you out of the sanding chair and posting. You are already well on your way. You have several models I've liked watching evolve the past few months and they are pleasing both aesthetically and in hand. Keep it up!

Thank you! I"m always excited to show off my new stuff, especially to fellow knife lovers. It's always a pleasure to see you in the shop, I'm looking forward to your next visit!
