I am a fan of axes and hatchets, especially small hatchets, belt axes and bag axes. Something nice and small that is not a burden to carry, yet is quite useful. Stomper introduced a hatchet a while back and I have been wanting one ever since, so I recently called him up and this is the result. An excellent little hatchet with a bloodwood handle. My hatchet is slightly different than the original deign in that I asked John to make the head a bit smaller. Less cutting edge but a bit more bite. It is 10 1/2" total height from handle to top of the head. The handle is just shy of 4 3/4" and the cutting edge is 2 7/8". It is made from 1/4" stock. I have not had a chance to really get it dirty, but should be able to this coming weekend at the CA gathering. The little bit I did mess around with it made me very happy. It cuts pretty damn well, I split some smaller pieces of firewood from a larger piece. I cut up some old branches left from tree trimming and was even able to make some very decent fuzz sticks with it (sorry no pics of that). The edges are ideal for firesteel striking and it is thick enough to make short work of tent stakes and other pounding tasks. This little guy is not going to be felling any trees, but that is not what this sized hatchet is meant to do. I am very pleased with it. John has created another fantastic tool I am extremely proud to own.
