New heavy duty folder needed

Thanks for all the great ideas, keep them coming still trying to decide. Looks like an M9 Bayonet will go on my vest. Just need something tough for a folder.

I'll throw out a few options that might not have been said yet:

Benchmade Gravitator
D`allara DP
Maybe a paramilli or milli

Sounds like a Rukus fits the bill too.

For that price range, the most killer folder I can think of (if you still can get them) Is the SOG Titanium Vision.

It beat my Strider SNG out of pocket time..
I have beat the crud out of that knife for years with no issues.

I think I am going to start looking for a Benchmade Mini Rukus with partially serrated blade, now I just have to find one.

It seems that my response for these big tough folder threads that pop up weekly is always the same. Buy a Manix. Best for the money IMO.

Given you will be in an area with foreign particles, you want a simple lock. The Reeve Integral Lock is ideal. A used Chris Reeve Sebenza, Spyderco Para Military or Strider will serve you the best. These knives are built to be used hard, are simple to clean, and are almost impossible to fail from debris in the lock.

I'd have to go with my cira late 90's BM CQC7 or LCC. For a fixed blade, a Phrobus M9 works pretty well for heavy work.

Hi,
I just received my ZT 0200SBT. I am impressed with the build, size, quality and price (<150.00).

If my life might depend on a knife, I would choose the Kershaw Zero Tolerance 0200. It opens fast, has great steel, and is solid as a rock!

On the more affordable side...

The CRKT Carson M21-04.
Or if you can find one, a discontinued CRKT titanium S-2.

Good luck and take care,
Allen

I'll put in another vote for the BG42 Military. Really nice knife and super sharp. The handle size is also a big plus to me.

ill give another vote for the BM skirmish or for the spyderco manix. Both very nice knives. I prefer the skirmish for fit and finish, but the manix is one hell of a tank--you cant go wrong with either. I got my mini skirmish off ebay for 100 bucks, so you can get good deals=)

Hey awmp, did you ever decide on one, were you able to find a BM 615.....I see that Knifecenter has all three models in stock. They also have the 610 in stock and it is one of the best slicers going with a very functional flatground blade. I just got one last week and it has to be the sharpest knife I've ever received out of the box, even to include Spyderco's I've had! That is saying something too. :D

Benchmade Mini Rukus on order, just waiting for it to come in, hopefully next week. Been carrying a Benchmade 551 Griptilian, black blade, partially serrated with Olive green handle. Great grip when wet out, seems to be a good around pocket knife, but really waiting for my rukus to come in. The more I carry benchmades the more I like them.

How about the RAT-1 folder. Does anyone know anything about that knife? I like Ontario and the price seems low compared to most of the previously mentioned knives. I know BM and Spyderco make great knives but just don't want to spend the $$. I'm I making a mistake not holding out for one of the above mentioned knives?

I have a RAT1 - seems like a great choice. Very solid lock-up, open build (for easy cleaning), big thumb post (good if you're wearing gloves), and comes in either plain or combo blades. A bigger knife that is simple and tough.

Buck/Strider can't be beat! Inexpensive so if it's lost no huge loss if you have to buy another and damn near indestructible.

I have 2 and love em both!
