New heavy duty folder needed

I have a RAT1 - seems like a great choice. Very solid lock-up, open build (for easy cleaning), big thumb post (good if you're wearing gloves), and comes in either plain or combo blades. A bigger knife that is simple and tough.

Thanks, darklight, for the info on the RAT1.

Do take a look at yourself a favor, and look at at the Spyderco Manix & Mini Manix.

I've sent three SRKW rat trap folders to Iraq and Afghanistan and the fellows there love them. But since they're discontinued your next best bet would be the Spyderco Manix.

I really like the Blade-Tech pro-hunter.
Slim but strong.
Not overly pricy either.

The Spyderco ParaMilitary comes to mind. Bulletproof lock, good steel, nice size and shape, plus it's not too expensive. I carry mine every day. Best of luck to you and thank you for your service.

Plus pretty simple construction. Nothing, sand can really do a harm.

Plus minor weight.

i carried a spyderco military, and it always worked. no springs to get sand in, no little buttons to try and find, or get clogged with sand, no finish to wear off, the handle gives grip with nomex gloves on, and the finger hole is big enough to use with nomex gloves as well. plus, its user serviceable. i can take it apart to either clean or repair it whenever i want. its a very basic, lightweight knife, that can sharpen easily, and hold up to a lot of crap. it worked perfect.

The only other really tough pocket knife i took out to the field, was the original sog tomcat. it was the cockiest knife ive ever carried. the spine of that knife was thicker than most fixed blades ive carried. i lost it that field maneuver lol. but it was a dam stout knife.

The buck strider's liner locks are very failure prone. If you want something really strong go with a compression or lockback
