New here. Lost my knife.

I would suggest either this one:

Or this one:
http://kershawguy.com/products-page/kershaw-blems/skyline-1760-blem/

The black color of the blade on the first one is just a coating that helps reduce corrosion or wear on the blade.

The second one is a Blem, which means it did not pass Kershaw's quality standards but still functions correctly. Blems are a good choice if you are only looking for a good price on a working knife that will get its share of scratches and dings anyway. Also definitely look around that website at some of the other knives there, you can find some good deals.

Welcome.
Kershawguy is a favorite around here. Good prices and fast shipping.

Second this! You can't go wrong with Dave. Find him at kershawguy.com

The Chive is rather small so you may feel more comfortable bumping up to the Scallion or Leek. There are so many variations on those models, half the fun will be picking the right one!

The Blur and Cryo 2 are rather large in hand, but if you're willing to pull the trigger on a bigger knife, go for it! You need to find what works for you.

As for the blades, the colored versions have a coating on them that affects certain properties (corrosion resistance/aesthetics/etc.) but not in a negative manner. You can't go wrong with any Kershaw. Great knives backed by a great warranty. Sorry for your loss, but welcome to an awesome site frequented by awesome people. Best of luck with your hunt!

Welcome to Bladeforums, losing anything sucks, but you will not be short of suggestions for replacements on here. You most likely will upgrade.

I highly recommend Kershawguy.com as well. Great selection of Kershaw and ZT's in both firsts and blems, super fast shipping (from him in OR to me in MI is usually two days), and BTW, shipping is included in all of his prices. He has been a huge help to me accumulating 130+ Kershaw/ZT's (and don't bother saying that you will never collect that many, 'cause I sad the same thing a few years back). Anyway, good luck with picking out your next knife, and welcome to Bladeforums!

I really appreciate the comments. Sadly I didnt know there were pocket knife forums until I lost my chive and was searching for a replacement. I am glad that I stumbled in.

I really like the looks of the Cryo 1. I also like that the blade is slightly longer than my chive. I noticed that it isnt made in the USA. Are there any issues with Kershaw knives that are made outside of the USA?

they're typically great values. The worst complaint I've heard is that they sometimes use too much loctite on the screws.

Hey man, in lieu of the Pay It Forward thread, I'd like to send you my Chive. It's pretty much BNIB, and it's only seen my pocket a handful of times. If you are interested in the same knife, here are some pictures taken with my phone:

Justin that is incredibly generous. If you no longer want that knife I can promise to give it a great home. I will send you an email.

Understand the jungle web site now. thanks. Can you recommend a good website for Kershaw sales? Is there a good online vendor that is reasonable on prices?
Also, I believe my chive was a stainless blade. I see some pictures of gray and black blades. Are these just pained or are they different metals? Should I stay away from any of these?

Thanks!

the gray and black coatings are Kershaw's tungsten "diamond-like coatings" or DLC. some people like them for the tactical look/function, or to help protect blades that don't innately have good corrosion resistance from rusting. doesn't alter the blade at all, it's just about whether or not you like the look. as far as I can tell, DLCs should be foodsafe and do not rub off - Kershaw does them, Spyderco does them. not super knowledgeable about it but it seems to me that the only major brand that uses paint instead of DLC is Cold Steel, because I've seen a bunch of Cold Steel blades that have the blade finish really scuffed up.

Nice Justin! Great of you to give like that

Welcome to the forum Foppa. I also just joined after losing my Kershaw Storm II. Fortunately, it finally turned up. Unfortunately, I'm still wanting to get another pocket knife.

Just curious, what is the screw at the end of the handle for? It looks like it is adjustable. What purpose does it serve?

If you're referring to the Chive, it's a pin that slides as a safety. The SpeedSafe assist that Kershaw puts on their knives is pretty wicked, so it's really easy to deploy by accident.

That's a small plastic guard that slides in front of the tip of the blade on some speed assist kershaws like the leek, the scallion and the chive, to keep them from opening accidentally in pocket.

May I recommend an Ontario Rat1, Rat2, Zancudo, or a lower end Spyderco like a Tenacious, Persistence, or Resilience? I'd really like to make a Spyderco fan out of you, but I do love carrying my Rat1...it was a gift from some very kind members on this forum in the PIF thread though, so it is near and dear. I really like the Kershaw Zing as well.

I am ok with Speedsafe, however many folders like the ones Spyderco makes seem faster to me, and so much easier to close one handed. If you're ready to put down a little money, a ParaMilitary 2 makes just about the perfect EDC.
