After reading Tknife's thread on the knife that Ray brought to life, it has prompted me to get this online to get some thoughts. A local maker, John Foxwell, is going to make this one for me. Rough specs;

3/16" thick (unknown steel at this stage)
Approx 5 1/4" blade, 5 1/4" handle.

Its a stout knife alright, which I like for a Hiker/woods knife.

That's a nice design Guy. I like how the handle slims down towards the blade. A little less ricasso would be my only critique.

I was a big choil guy(sharpening choil) and now do not put them in, I find they catch on stuff and make working closer to the hand impossible. So, other than getting rid of that and bringing the edge closer to the guard, I would not change a thing. I like it, and the handle contour will be comfortable.

Nice knife design:thumbup::thumbup:

It's really neat to bring your own designs into reality! We're fortunate to have so many good makers around here who can make it happen. Glad you have a design that works for you! :thumbup:

I like that design and I think 3/16 is about preferct for that size. As for the steel...stick to a good carbon steel...O1, 1095 or maybe step over to A2?

I like the guard, but if you don't mean to have a choil/ricasso, I would move the edge a little closer for useful blade-length.

What kind of handle material are you thinking?

Looking good. The point sort of reminds me of the Benchmade 940, one of my favorite folders. It should be really stout and still has a nice sweep to the blade. I would definitely go with a carbon blade too. Looks like it will be a great design!

I like it, only thing I'd change would be the ricasso, a little large for my taste. However, each person has their own preferences.

It kinda reminds me of a knife designed by another outdoor enthusiast.......

Just screwin with Ya! Its a really cool design:thumbup:

I like it a lot! The only thing I'd change has been hit on, either I'd bring the edge closer to the guard, or turn the sharpening choil into a finger choil. Both ways would work to bring the sharpened edge right up to your hand, allowing for a more powerful and controlled cut.

It does look like a great all-purpose design, though:thumbup: How wide at the guard, and what grind are you going with?

Runsalone, that was a low blow!!!! :D

I modeled it from the Tracker handle, but the guard is near identical! Hmmm.

Ill mod the ricasso, good call! Plus a couple of other trick bits. Still Foxxy will have final say as to what changes have to be made to allow for ease of manufacture.

that's a great looking design Gundy.. i like it man...:thumbup: looking forward to seeing the finished product...

Tell him there's at least one other guy interested in one.

And for the record, Grylls did not design that knife. He may have comissioned it but the knife is akin to most of the maker's other designs.

I really like the look. Crisp and cool looking. I like the penetrator tip. Who knows if it'll be more useful that way, but the grinds look great to me. It's a bit tactical looking, and I'm digging it.

Ricasso...yeah. Get the most blade for the length I say.

What kind of scales are you thinking about? Micarta? Wood?
