New Home of Daniel Fairly Knives - Shop Work in Progress

Very cool Daniel!!! It's looking really nice!!! :)

I like how you made it snow. We have all sorts of ways to make it rain here in WA like that! ;) :D

A dedicated shop is such a freaking awesome thing.... You will LOVE it.  :D I don't even have mine close to being set up right yet, and I still smile every time I walk into it. :)

Man if im ever in your area I have to stop by and say hi (even tho Ive never been to CO before heh)! You seem like a laid back enjoy the day type of guy but still get work done. I like that! What are your summers like. Here in louisiana winters don't bother me much. Jeans and a pull over sweatshirt or just long sleeves handles that but summers kill me with 100 degree heat and worst 100 percent humidity...

Awesome news man I love it !!!!! what I want to know is why you need an electrical inspection if you're in the sticks?? I know it varies county to county but sheesh.. .:D

Being in the trades I won't pick anything apart I promise :) but I'd like to have seen a stacked top plate on your walls to help support the weight of the snow, and those 2x6's..

looks good man can't wait to see her finished up!!!

take care,

Geeze Daniel, your commute is just a bit shorter than mine! But I would much rather make knives full time! Hey maybe my knife will be one of the first out of your new shop!

Thanks Xander! Yours may be the first, it will be soon for sure! :D

Thanks Nick! I am very happy to have it, I will be able to work more efficiently and it will we a lot warmer this time of year! I can't wait! :D

Come on by! I have always wanted to make it out your way as well. Our summers are the best, the weather here is great. I live on a mountain at elevation so we get a lot of snow but nearby in Durango it is nice and clear. We have desert 10 miles south and actual tundra about 30 miles north so there is a lot of variation.

Thanks! I hear you on the framing, I had a local guy frame it and although he assures me it will work for the snow load I will be sure to keep the roof clean! Lets just say some of the finishing was a bit challenging because of the unusual building technique. :D As far as electrical inspection goes I feel the same way.

I have the drywall sanded and am about to go seal and prime it, getting closer! I decided to do the drywall in two parts because I have family coming in soon, it was kicking my butt putting up the ceiling! This way I can get a bunch of trim work done and work on the floor, after that it should be finished soon!

Thanks Matt!

Here's more recent progress.

All the drywall is up, mudded and taped, I have to do a second layer of mud then it's time for trim, paint and primer!

Lookin good.
what happened to the epoxy floor plan? Or is it clear and just not showing in the pic?

Thanks! The epoxied floor is working out great so far, it is hard to tell it is epoxied in the pics though. The epoxy really deadened the floor noise which was an unexpected bonus.

I took a quick video this afternoon.

AWESOME man.... !!! that's what I'm talking about :D

I'm super jealous but I'll get over it.. :)

eventually....

Thanks!!! I'm almost jealous of myself! :D :D :D

What size is your shop? It looks like a pretty good size!

12'x24' total, the grinding room is 8'x12' and the clean room is 12'x16'.

I think it will be a great size especially if I add a small area for a compressor and dust collector when I get them.

12' x 24' looks bigger than I thought it would. I'm converting a 12' x 8' (well) pump house into my first knife shop and it is definitely small.

It feels much bigger now that everything is white. Good luck with the pump house, I used to have one at my old place and it would have been a great smaller shop!
