New Hybrid Viper EO Teardrop

I posted on facebook a few days ago that seems fairly accurate so far. " This will probably be the most misunderstood traditional hybrid ever. Viper Dan owners will likely love it. Others will hate it. Everyone else will be confused by it."

There's a bocote resting in my mailbox as i type this. Super dooper excited! (PS. i **love** my Viper Dan2)

Your Facebook post sounds just about right! I actually love Viper Knives and have been buying them occasionally for the last 7 or 8 years. Trouble is, the good ones are primarily only available in Europe, although I did find an awesome Italian dealer with that search. The Gent is still probably my favorite Viper. They don’t really fit in the traditional realm and if you post about them in General, they’re pretty much dead on arrival. Too pretty, two handed, no pocket clip.

I am extremely anxious to receive the cf and bocote versions. They were supposed to arrive yesterday but now they’re sitting around at the wrong post office. I hope they get it together!

I know I’m going to love these. Don’t even have to hold them to know it. Love the pictures everyone! Keep em coming!

knifeswapper knifeswapper I hope you continue to think outside the box and keep making these awesome knives! Thank you!

Interesting feedback, guys. I had no idea what a "Viper Dan" was so I googled it and it doesn't interest me at all. But I do like this Viper Teardrop. It's always a challenge to do something that nobody else is doing but I think it turned out well.

Not only was this old pattern rebirthed with a new mechanism but it's also a sunk joint. No small task to combine all of that in one knife... plus a lanyard too. It might be misunderstood. In a world where Alexa answers all of our questions and tools have become jewelry, the interesting/functional combination of old and new may be under appreciated. ;) I think folks who appreciate tradition and function will like these a lot.

As far as the appearance... In general, shadows tend to look a bit different. For example, a "bird's eye" stockman looks a bit different than a stockman with bolsters. Sunk joints tend to look a bit different also. The antique Pocketeze knives from Robeson are good examples. Beautiful knives, but the sunk joints made them look a bit different compared to knives without sunk joints. The Viper Teardrop looks right for this combination of features. To me, they look very traditional with the wood covers. I also think the shape of the blade looks very traditional. I have one small criticism and that is that I'd prefer a standard screw for the pivot. But it sounds like it may still be adjustable.

I like what was done with this knife and hope to see more combinations of old and new from CK and Viper.

Yeah with no backspring there's lots of room for the blade to fit in the blade well. So goodbye exposed blade tang! It's quite intelligent.

The lion steel barlow is also a bit thicker through the handle than GEC single blades, but I find it fits well in pocket and hand. These teardrops looks very cool to my eyes, but I’ll have to wait for a later run as my knife buying and reselling needs to slow down. I’m wearing my wife out with how much time I’m giving to knife exploration!

My natural canvas was waiting for me after a long day and made for a nice ending:thumbsup:
Solid, centered and RAZOR sharp:cool:
I look forward to the Micarta covers darkening with use and age:thumbsup:

Mine arrived yesterday and i am very impressed with the quality, this is very much a modern knife styled after a traditional. Don't expect a firm snap since there is no backspring but I love that it has a halfstop. I can understand if you don't want to stray to far from the porch to purchase one of these, but know they did a excellent job.

Shiny Carbon Fiber: Never
Clip Point: Probably Never
Edge: Only knife I have cut myself with in years - twice. I don't know what you're smokin' :D
Box: Had assumed it would come in standard Viper box, but really doesn't seem to affect the cutting ability much. They did have the knife in a plastic baggie and that wrapped in a small bubble wrap insert - but I threw away the bubble wrap insert as I inspected the knives.
Pivot: The pivot is unique but can be adjusted once you get the hang of it. Just tighten the screw and see what happens ;)

It did not end up looking as traditional as I would have hoped, and I am not a fan of pinching blades. But in a clip slip with small lanyard I am really warming up to it.

Your opinions are appreciated.
What size clip slip would this use?

Just received my natural canvas, maple burl in the mail. What a great knife! everything folks have been posting- the build, design, excellent. Giving my Roundhead and Shuffler a run for their money. I'm a fan of teardrops, EZ open, lanyard holes in general, and have always been attracted to the 85's, but prefer stainless; so I do love this! I hard a hard time deciding on a handle material- shout out to Mike for being so nice about that; in the end snagged the 2 versions with intention to sell one. Maybe not.

I really like the looks of the matte carbon fiber

I would like to feel the closing action. I don't doubt that the detent system works keeping it open and closed, but I've had detents wear out before and I'm not sure if I'd like it without snap closed.

There's a lot to admire here both from a Traditional aesthetic and a Modern methodology. Really like that blade shape!

The micarta will wear in nicely but I think I would've preferred a polished version. Very good move forward I'd say:cool:

I hope there are some CF or bocote available next month, 2 vehicles are in need of major repair. I think this knife is a homerun, and I enjoy other brands also. Nice to see something a bit different instead of the same thing rehashed again. The spearblade looks fantastic. Mike has taken the SFO level up a notch with these, let the good times roll!

I liked your pics, and they made me curious about what a clip point would look like...
I wonder if this would leave enough material to still be pinchable. The lack of a spring makes me think yes, but I do not have one in hand, so I cannot tell how strong the detent is...

Full cutting edge was retained. Unedited pic below.oXDFGeH.jpg

Interesting photos of the Clip, but I've always preferred Spear blades on the Teardrop pattern somehow. I'd really like to get a Maple Burl but looks like it's beyond reach....

A really worthwhile New Age Traditional :thumbsup:

For a teardrop spearpoint this one has a fairly good tip for piercing. The grind is done very well.

I don't think that clip point profile will work, to be honest. The blade sits very low in the handle.

So you’re just using the slip, not the slip with the pocket clip on it? The slips with clips I only see small and large.

Sorry, I missed that. Either clip slip will work - just depends on how low you want it to sit.
