Hi everybody,
I've just been looking around the web at knives for awhile and decided to jump on board. I had a thing for knives ever since I was a young kid, and I collected several from brands that I honestly can't even remember now. Except for my cold steel machete, that thing is pretty sweet. Anyway, the brand Ganzo caught my eye a year or so ago with their G707. Remembering that I looked it up and it looks like the importing to the US has pretty much ended, so I hopped on amazon and bought one of the last ones available. I haven't even received the blade yet but I feel like I've 'relapsed.' lol, I am highly interested in Ganzo, Sanrenmu, and other budget lines at the moment. So that's where I'm at in the knife hobby right now. My main blade right now is a Buck Oddessy 168 from 2004ish and I use it every night at work. Great knife, and I'm hoping to find other knives I enjoy just as much.

Welcome to our club. We enjoy all kinds; all price levels. Hope you will be comfy here.

Welcome. The buck Odyssey was one of my first favorite knives. They should bring it back. Better than some of the current offering IMO.

Welcome!

The problem, in my opinion, with some of the Ganzos, Sanrenmus, and other budget lines, is that they have appropriated some proprietary technology and borrowed some design from other makers.

There is a world of high quiality "budget" lines and models that havent, like Opinels.

Or the humble Victorinox Swiss Army knife! Many here, including myself, haven't found anything better than them, despite spending a load of money trying to.

Collect like you like, most importantly, but read around here, you may find info on some really, really good knives that dont cost an arm and a leg.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I got the Ganzo in the mail just now. All I have to say is that it's amazing how far low budget knives have come since I last bought a knife. Those cheap Chinese Italian style stilettos aren't even close to the quality of this thing. The alignment of the blade is perfect when its closed, the opening action of it is very strong and it locks up perfectly. There is very very little play in the blade in any direction. We will see how wears in and how it holds up in general, but I'm pretty pleased with it!

welcome to the Blade Forums...you can check out any time you want...but you can never leave!

if you know what's good for you, you will stay away from the Custom Knives For Sale forum...that is the domain of the Sith Lords!!! Once you go over to the dark side there is no return!

Only Darth Vader and Sonnydaze have done so!

That's funny, ViperPilot, and I love it. Yes, I have had my share of custom knives...primarily 3"- 4" fixed blades with good steels and fancy wooden grips, although my nicest fixed was from HorseWright in California...Sterling silver bolster and grip cap and gorgeous wood grips. I've owned several custom fixed and folders from various famous guys...some of whom follow: Jim Burke, Alan Davis, Bailey, Backwoods Blades, and several titanium-scaled marvels from a maker in North Carolina (Jim Hoover) who allowed me to primarily design my own folder. All of these folks are simply amazing.
However, I have calmed down to a large degree these days, and now seem to be quite satisfied with one or two mid-techs and my basic Spydie fever...

The only thing with that I have a problem with is supporting Ganzo. I will personally never buy any of their knives no matter how well they are made for the money. If I want another AXIS folder, I'll buy a Benchmade. Sorry for the rant, but someone had to do it. That said, Victorinox makes a really good product for the money. I have a Super Tinker with my Benchmades and Spydercoes at all times

Welcome to the addiction!

I strongly recommend checking out Ontario brand's offerings
RAT 1
RAT 2
Utilitac II in all it's variations.

They are amazing values for what you get. Original designs from a pretty reputable company that stands by it's products.

Welcome to the forum and for a good quality budget take a look at Cold Steel's new folders in Cts Xhp steel. Really well done.

Welcome!
I agree with viperpilot. Stay away from customs! and the custom for sale here. You will black out, and come to 5 years later having bought, sold, and traded a bmw or two worth of customs in that time. The other way you could go is buying hundreds of spydercos, BM's, or ZT, or budget knives. All in all, be careful, this place can draw you in more than one way.

Welcome, this is a great place with lots of info and good folks. Once you give into temptation, hard not too with all the great things on the exchange, you will wonder how you got so many knives. No worries, we will help you take some of them off your plate. ;)

I've had the Ganzo g707 for a little bit and had time to get acquainted with it. I still really like this knife and I appreciate the weight it has. I have but one complaint. I saw that one of the tiny torx screws that holds the pocket clip on was not tightened down all the way. I got the correct size torx bit and tried to tighten it up and the head stripped out like it was made out of marshmallow fluff. Turns out the threads of the screw weren't even cut right. But seriously, wtf are these screws made out of? I did some looking using google and it looks like I'm not the only person who's had issues with the screws. Is there somewhere I could buy replacements?
