New INFI, and an LE to boot!

HAD is the key word, I buy Busses, use them, see if I like them then sell them for "something better", then when I tried more, I go and revisit what I liked to be "keepers".

The FSH series is something i'd absolutely like to revisit. Near FBM chopping power in a smaller package.

Nice thing is you have a captive ,active market.
There are worse hobbies out there.

Took her out and beat the living snot out of her for a fire tonight. Still have a ton of downed trees/branches that need cleaning up after another rough winter.

I'm really into this knife quite a bit. It handles tremendously well, although it feels like the handle weighs more than the blade, it's not the case. It chops just as good as my FFBM did, and a little less than my NMFBM. In fact, I give it the edge on chopping for slightly smaller stuff over the FFBM as it seems to bite deeper.

The FBM and a maul got into a fight... the maul... she'll never.. never split again.

A little soap and water... cleaned right up.. well almost.

I think I may have knocked the handle out of alignment while batoning. Didn't really seem to notice it until the end, but had to really bang into it with one of the wood chunks.. Just a wood baton, but I was coming down hard to get it through a knot.

bm11.jpg

I have really bad luck.

Anyway, the knife performed awesome, although it doesn't chop quite as good as the NMFBM, its a pleasure to use. My hands don't even hurt...

Congrats Bro on the FBM LE score!! Its one of my all time Favorite Knives and a Great Chopper!;)

Maybe the shop could put smooth bolts in those handles 230. But then they may have to change your slabs completely to make that work.
Looks like your really testing her out thoughly.

ASH-1 cg
Skinny ASH that didn't really get to use that much, (I think the LE thickness would be a better match with me)
NMSFNO
FSH
HOGFSH
(handled and sold another FSH from blade west, never used it though)
Boss Street
FFBM x2
FBM LE
NMFBM
Killa Zilla

Now I'm looking at:
FBM LE
Dogfather
NMFBM (maybe LE)
HOGFSH
Batac
Basic 9
NMSFNO

I have a problem where the grass is always greener on the other side, so I buy something then sell it because "this will be better", then I just keep doing it. Now that i've tried a good amount of busses, I know what I like and what I dont like.

I would say you have tried a few:D I know what you mean about the greener grass over there:thumbup:

Don't break this one:eek:

Keep it coming, I'm tuned in ,I have the same knife coming in the next week .Wonder if you should'nt do some kind of cutting competition like I've seen in Blade ,only with your own Busse twist of course.Do you still have most of those you have posted ?[to to a back to back comparo]...kelly

YOU are a Meathead!!
:yawn::D:thumbup:

I know, I broke another one!

What sucks is, I don't want to ship it back to Busse, I spend more $$ shipping INFI than I do buying it. That, and I just got it today.. I figured i'd have it more than a day.

Look at the bottom of the pictures and the pic of it with the maul, I already broke it first time using it.

Someone has got to do the testing:D

I don't, I buy and sell Busses until I find the ones I like. Now i'm going to go through the process of rebuying all the ones I liked. Dogfather i next, then NMFBM LE.

It's a hard job, but it sure is fun.

Honestly, if i'm going to get into a hobby, I want to go in all the way. I figure if I test out as many as possible I can make educated decisions on what works best for me. Now I have to rebuy them all.

another option:

drill out the tube fasteners (very carefully o_0) and replace them with screws and stand offs. you can get it really tight, replace them if sheered, and it won't damage the tang or the scales at all. if ever you (for some reason I'll never understand) want to get the tube fasteners back, you can send it in

230, I think LVC's got the right idea/answer. You could locktite them down and your handle problem would be solved. For now anyway, but you put stuff thru the test thats for sure. I still think you need a Moab with solid bolts though. ;)

I don't consider that broken. Being a machinist why not put them back on urself?

I am baffled though as to how hitting the spine would bend the tube fasteners.

I have thrown my FBMLE and the handles are fine. Lots of chopping also.

Don't tell me ur just that strong :)

If you go for drilling out the tube fastners 230 remember to only drill the tapered bit on one side .... after that you need to tap out the tube ... dont put the drill bit through the holes in the handle ... you run the risks of ruining the fit on the bolts ... PM Ban for the right technique ... he once posted that tip ...

Get some inserts like LVC showed. Carbide drill 64th undersized. Ream .005 under and
press in or make your own inserts with drill rod. Just my 2 cents.

I've done it to 2 knives, one busse one non-busse. The baton comes down and creates a sheering force on the tubes, something they really can't handle very well. The metal busse combat uses for the tubes is stronger then most, but it's still a long and relatively thin tube that your hitting from the side with a blunt instrument. you can help reduce the risk by raising the tang above the scales, such as these two examples:
http://www.grecoknives.com/Whisper_CT_Anodized_or_satin_finish_640_wide.png
http://news.soc.mil/releases/News Archive/2009/March/yarborough_knife.jpg

but it makes for a very uncomfortable grip when striking vibrations transfer to the hand via the raised area's. beyond putting a metal plate around that part of the handle like you see splitting mauls (a silver sheath around the shoulder portion of the handle, right up next to the head) there isn't much you can do to prevent handle scale sheering from baton strikes. Thats the main reason I prefer to replace sheered tubes with screws and standoffs instead of more tubes, it's faster and easier to repair on site, and it's going to happen eventually if you baton large wood rounds a lot.
