New INFI, and an LE to boot!

I don't consider that broken. Being a machinist why not put them back on urself?

I am baffled though as to how hitting the spine would bend the tube fasteners.

I have thrown my FBMLE and the handles are fine. Lots of chopping also.

Don't tell me ur just that strong :)

It's not "broken", it is still functional as the handle isn't spinning around, it just pinches the hand a little when you use it.

Shamefully, I don't have my own drill press, and I don't think they're going to like it at work if I bring in the BM to drill out the fasteners. I don't suppose they'd like it very much if I dropped it off in the tool room either. :o

As for how I did it, I have my theories. I was splitting a large log that had a lot of knots, I got the knife started batoning it and it got stick very fast. I needed to get it split as i'd have a hard time burning this section whole because it was wet. I broke two batons trying to get it further into the log but it wouldn't move so I grabbed a hunk of a smaller tree that had a club like offshoot on it and started in. It took about 40 or so whacks to get it to start moving, but it did. I'm pretty sure that's when it happened. I'm guessing the vibration going through the knife could have done it, or whacking it near the handle when it'd get stuck. Either way, it happened and is pretty annoying. I'm not going to send it in right away, I just got it yesterday so I'll probably keep using it until it either breaks more or annoys me enough. Then I'm going to probably send it in to the shop, i'll probably just pay them to fix it and send me back the handles unattached so I can use a screw/standoff set up.

That's OK Mike I just broke my 2nd Trail Master. ;)

I understand. I was just surprised:)

I was kind of surprised too, it hasn't happened to be before on any Busse knife. I must have hit it just right. Maybe i'm wrong, maybe it's always been this way and I never noticed. It doesn't wobble, or feel loose at all, but i can feel the tang, and on the other side of it the handle sticks out.

The FBMLE is worth getting those handles on right IMO. You just need a drill press and punch to get them off. Just wrap it in a rag and take it to work:D Drill Slow:eek:

I feel for you 230 ... having that happen on the first outing is gutting ... sending it in to the shop sounds the best solution if you have'nt got access to the gear needed to sort it ... it's cheaper than buying the tools and it's done right ...

Whatd you do to it?

Just chopping wood in my last chop off and the Guard broke loose, and no I didn't hit the guard either. :D

The same thing happened to the other one about 6 months ago, this one was the replacement knife.

Hey Ankerson, why don't they just silver solder that guard to to knife?

When I get a knife stuck in a round of wood, and can't baton it any further, then I use some other skinny length of wood as a wedge and beat it in above the blade to free up the knife.

I've done that as well, but on the other hand... that's why I spend 700 dollars on a knife, so I don't have to use a wedge. Honestly, i've never had a problem doing it before, that's why I was a little surprised. It's really no big deal to me, i'll get it fixed eventually.

...but if it makes everyone happy, I won't beat on busses anymore.

I do the same thing when that happens.

No since beating on it harder than you really need to IMO.
