New J.D.Smith

The more I carry this knife and the more I inspect it I'm finding it may be one of the best built production knives in my collection as far as workmanship and fit and finish goes.

There isn't one "pet peeve" of mine that is present in it. The blade is dead center, the action is smooth with perfect resistance and everything fits perfectly. These things are very important to me in a high end production knife, design notwithstanding. A design is someone else's rendition of what the knife should be. I can live with that. I wish every $100 to $300 production knife I buy is assembled as well as this particular knife..

The particular Japanese maker Spyderco uses for the Smith is known for these qualities. They also make the Caly 3, Persian, Kiwi, Kopa, Khukuri and Barong.

Tom,

That speaks volumes. Sal should be happy to have this mfg on board.

Does Spyderco use different makers in Japan? I thought that it was just one particular factory they had make them all....
