New Kershaw Blurs...

That blackwash looks especially good, I like the "antique" kind of look it gives, especially with the brown/bronze handles. Given that I bought the S30V Blur about 6 weeks ago, I (sadly) can't justify it to myself to buy another of the same knife with basically the same blade shape. Maybe they will make the S30V or Elmax in another blade shape at some point.

It looks even better in person, hard to get it with my crappy cell phone camera. I was also getting ready to spring for the s30v version but couldn't pass this up, since sadly once they are gone they probably wont come back. Will probably get the s30v version in the future and frankenblur it with that green smoke or something. The blur is the one knife I have recently decided I will start "collecting." Too bad I missed out on the carbon fibers :(

They're very cool looking. Stonewashed is a fingerprint magnet but blackwashed is impervious. Only 500 of each have been produced and they'll be all gone fairly soon. They'll be unique. I received one of each today.

Got mine yesterday (ELMAX) and am very impressed. The lockup is perfect, the blackwashed blade is fantastic, and I really like the hand-feel. Thank you - your posts convinced me to get one. One question, where do they publish the number produced? Was surprised they only made 500...good news for those who own one!

Some dealers mentioned 500 of each and a Moteng rep said more like 550 BW and 450 SW. 1,000 combined for both models.

I don't doubt the info...I just couldn't find this on the Kershaw site and wondered where that type of info would be. I did find a few dealer sites where a limited production run of 500 was indicated, specific to the ELMAX BW version. I hope this is the case, would love to be the owner of a 1-in-500 run.

Did the lock fail?
No, I never used the knife.

I don't know if you've ever worked in a factory, but they can't QC every single blade. It would take entirely too much time.

They likely crank them out in batches and check one or two per batch. Its quite plausible for the tolerances to get just a touch off in the middle of a batch and it go unnoticed. It happens in every single sizeable company in any industry.
Understood...

The only reason it shouldn't have passed QC is if the lock was failing. If it didn't fail then there isn't a reason it shouldn't have passed. Did it fail at all? Who knows. It could have been the little liner lock that could..... Never underestimate the underdog. ;)

Also, did you ask the lady at KC to email you a picture of one of the other one's? I doubt all 20 of theirs were like that. I'm betting they were closer to my BDZ1 blur, or the other elmax ones on here.
My issue is inconsistency. I've owned probably 15 different RAT 1's from various vendors and their lockbar has never been very far off from one another. If I'm buying a knife for 4x the cost I expect the same, if not more.

I think that those of you that are concerned about their lockup should just take advantage of KAI's warranty. They can tweak it for you, no problem. These are limited edition knives, so there is only so much exchanging that can be done here. Would you prefer not to do that? Of course, but as others have said, that's the reality of manufacturing today. The kind of QC you are talking about would significantly drive up the price, then you'd complain about that...
If anyone thinks I'm complaining, I'm not. Didn't like the particular knife's lockup, returned it, that's it.

Honestly, if it were mine I'd just take it apart and bend it inward ever so slightly.
I considered that but opted not to.

I was a Moteng Account Manager, but am not anymore. There were about 50 more Blackwash than stonewash, about 1,050 total pieces. Dealers will not know the exact count, they are only told what their account managers feel like spewing out.

Always an option, always someone to buy these when others return them.

Kershaw Guy still has a few in stock, so that bodes well for those that still desire them!!

Best Regards,
