They are being made in the US.
There niche for quality and price will be in the higher end of production knives. Like Mike indicated they are doing all the work.

Hello Everyone.

I am Tim from Amherst Cutlery Company.
My friends call me Pappy.

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who came to visit us at the Blade Show. The word spread quickly that we were there with our new products and we were visited by sooooo many people. I have never met so many really nice people all at one time. It seems the folks from your part of the forum are special. Those that stopped to see us critiqued our products, even including the positives! You all were willing to share your thoughts and opinions very openly, and you taught us alot about your likes, dislikes and expectations.

I appreciate the kindness and the candor very, very much. I'll gladly answer any questions you might have. We need to stay in the spirit of your forum and stay away from us actually selling knives here. I don't want to contaminate the great atmosphere you have created. Take a peek at the website. Call and ask questions, please.

Thank you again. My dad and I had a great time meeting you. I hope we can meet again at many Blade Shows in the future!

Keep Good Care,

Tim
(Pappy)

Welcome Tim,

Nice way to enter the forum and it seems like you already have a good handle on how things run here. Good talking to you and I look forward to seeing more knives from your company.

Mike

Hey Pappy,

I enjoyed spending time with you and your dad at the show.

Looking forward to seeing what new and interesting patterns will be coming down the pike as well as the steels that will be offered.

Especially enjoyed talking "edges" and sharpening with you and look forward to seeing just how nice those sharpened knives will be.

Best of luck to you both. I think you'll find this an excellent venue to help keep your finger on the pulse of what traditional/slipjoint knife lovers value.

Welcome to Blade Forums Tim. Enjoyed speaking with you on the phone before the Blade show. Good luck in the Cutlery Business. As I said on the phone i will be A customer.

Welcome, Pappy! Nice to have you on board. I'm looking forward to becoming a customer one of these days. I'm liking what I'm hearing about you, and more importantly, from you.

Pappy,
Meeting you and your dad was a major highlight of Blade for me and it is great to have you here with us. You already fit right in with this group.

Welcome!

Gus

Pappy, welcome to the forums. I did not go to Blade, but after hearing about your knives from the folks here, I am awaiting them with great interest.

So, we went to work and now have these prototypes.
Yes, they are for sale.
They are posted to the website in the production knives section.

We will begin a production run on these peanuts very soon.

We also have a peanut handmade coming to our line.

So, to those of you in the Peanut Gallery.............I hope you find something to fall in love with.

Pappy: These knives are GORGEOUS. Fairly priced too, me thinks. I'm predicting you sell of a bunch of these. The wife and I just had baby no. 3, so funds are a bit tight at the ol' mnblade household right now ..... 'course with Father's Day coming right around the bend. :D If pre-ordered, how long of a wait are we talking?

Folks, not to break up the party but questions regarding sales and purchases need to be handled via PM or email or via the Amherst website. We cannot use this sub-forum for such as there are designated areas of the site for dealers to post knives for sale.

Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience.

For those who talked to them at Blade or on the phone. What is the diff between their customs and productions ? Are customs hand ground ? If so , by whom ?

I have no experience with AUS8 or the other steel they used , anyone care to share their experience with either of those 2 steels ?

Wish they had more information on their website ( a long dist call to Ohio is not an option for me from work ).

Very nice looking knives though , will more than likely grab a couple productions. I would be less inspired to shell out $300+ for a custom from them without much more info especially when you consider the bargains that some of the slip makers on BF are putting out.

I almost did a pre-ordered on the Canoe Pattern but then I saw the steel, 440A? Why do that beautiful interior mammoth ivory then us 440A steel on the blades? Kinda disappointed to tell the truth. on some of the knives they are using AUS-8 and on one (the mini trapper) they state they will be switching to D-2 after the initial run of 100.

Maybe best to wait a bit...

I feel as you do.

I was immediately drawn to the stag and mammoth ivory peanuts. I found myself a little turned off by the choice of steel. The knives look great but for the price, I want better steel. The handle material looks fantastic but I'd opt for better steel at that price than premium handle scales.

The custom knives look so very nice. The coffin jack is killing me...I want one very much badly. :)

I was really looking forward to D2, and was disappointed at the 440A.
I will wait for a better steel.

A few things for you to comment on.

A few other interesting things to come.

You all Keep Care,

Pappy
