New Knife for Giveaway: Vantage?

I'm good with the Vantage, but I'm on board with the guys that said 501 and 300 as well. Bad blade centering gets on my nerves pretty bad. I know it's a minor issue, but it should be a minor thing to get right at the same time. Companies have designers and engineers for that. I would like a nice wood version, and I'm good with s30v....

The older versions were simpler. The newer ones are no fun to take apart due to their construction.
Very true  I wish Buck would go back to SCREWS so centering issues could be taken care of . I have a couple newer ones , I guess I was lucky they came well centered :D

An assisted auto vantage and at least 3 sets of different interchangeable premium scales included. :)

I like the Vantage. I have 4 different models. It’s the knife that was the gateway to my knife addiction. It’s also the first knife that severely cut me and taught me to have much more respect for a knife when handling one.

If you make it I'll probably purchase one just to add to the pile. But I have little faith the Vantage will replace my SK Blades Marksman as my EDC.

I really can't tell you how happy I am with my G10 S35VN Marksman. It's been my EDC since August 2016. The knife just keeps getting better and better with use.

I think Mt. Pokt sized it up accurately. Like it or not knife guys today are OCD over little items like blade centering. The Vantage is a modern design and many like it but it seems to be plagued with problems. I don't own one, just read. I purchased my wife one and it is fine. For a more solid offering I'd choose the Duke 500. It is a more traditional design and less problematic. DM

I as well prefer to have a centered blade on any folder ;) I also know that with any Buck folder poor blade centering happens now and than regardless of model unfortunately. I would not hold such a miner issue like blade centering on the Vantage to be a deal breaker. I own 12 all well centered :D. I also own a few 110s with blades not centered that I have know idea how to fix.

on another note I like the Vantage as a user Knife if there is anyway to make an improvement to it I'm in. As far as making it just pretty not for me :D just saying what ever is fine by me :)

Interesting responses. I feel I cannot be part of the giveaway but would like to comment.
I have several custom small vantages. I like them for a EDC clip carry knife. I would like to see a nice colored jigged bone model.
I have a photo of what I consider poor color and will dig it out (post 'Bucket' issues for the others) and eventually will find two wood slabs and a stag model. I tried making one with poor color jigged bone and never quite could get it adjusted. I do not like them to rub, but have had no trouble from off center blades or locks that were not centered as long as they were completely inside the tang edge. The thick blade is strong but can cause some slicing issues, such as cutting thick rubber garden hose. I will provide photos here eventually. They look good but the stag is heavy. I usually carry a diamondwood. I started running around with Vantages because they clip deep in the pocket. Jigged bone would be my grail Vantage. 300

This is the poor color self mangler effort I don't like the red on.

This is my favorite production Diamondwood version, I hand picked at a big knife shop in SE MO.

My first thought was nothing. I like my work EDC Vantage pro serrated. It has been through a lot and the blade rubs the liner but it still looks great. Then I thought an auto version would be nice. :)

How about an OTF?

Would love to see a version in s35vn or someother steel than the usual 420hc or s30v. Also maybe some micarta scales maybe black or some cocobolo scales/handles.

All this Vantage talk is going to make me dig out one of mine and give it a bit of pocket time again. It’s been in a drawer for the last year or so. If I remember correctly the lock bar on it is all the way over to 100%. I could just send it in to Buck and have them fix it.

The amount of movement at the pivot is so minimal but has a huge effect on the tip of the blade. I dont sweat centering much. Now I did spend quite a bit on a CRK knife. Its centered. But 400 plus, my expectations are higher.

What make the Vantage line so great is the steel, assembly etc at the price point is sells at. Hard to beat. The 110

For sure. They may send you a new one. who knows.:)

I own 11 vantages (5 different models) and carry one of them daily. I am not worried about blade centering as long as the blade comes out when I want it to. All my knives were bought off the bay and none were new.

So there is love for the Vantage after all! My initial thoughts have been on some highly premium materials, for example, marbled carbon fiber or perhaps lightning strike carbon fiber, and of course S35VN. I don't think of it as tacticool, but rather, awesome. Of course, this will probably be our next forum knife, so I'll continue to glean from all the comments (thank you!) and put together some options for a poll if we decide to move on the Vantage. That way the decision can be in your hands.

I have been considering a 300 series for some time, but have been unable to gauge how well that would do out in the world. We also keep tossing around an auto 110, but that would be a pricey sucker.

Thanks everyone! As always, excellent information and feedback.

It's a beauty of a knife. So easy to use one handed, it's unreal. It's also the best fidget toy in the world! Thanks for the comment and glad you are loving it.
