New knife for Paramedic...

I would get her a Spyderco Domino or PM2.

The paramilitary rides super slim in the pocket relative to its size and its a honking good knife!

CChu518 I hate to break it to you but that is not a PM2. It is a Military in S110V. Great knife.

OP, a simle lock back like the Endura is a great choice and it takes a good edge and holds it well. The Endura is about the size of a Buck 110 blade wise but is much lighter in weight. The blade is slender and easier to get in tight places. Plus, being fairly inexpensive, if she loses it another can be had without many heartaches.

CS makes the American Lawman in CTS-XHP that would be another good choice.

I always recommend the Triage to Paramedics. Since that sounds like it is not the right choice I would seriously consider a ZT0350. While a lot of people do not like recurved blades we have several local Paramedics that frequent our shop and swear by it as the perfect knife for their job. Besides that it fits all the other parameters you have included.
My only issue with recurve is sharpening. The ZT0350 doesn't look too bad on the curve. Will do some reading to see how people sharpen those.

Yes you're correct! I was just mentioning the Domino and PM2 as decent options. I traded my Domino and PM2 but they are still great knives.

Love the millitary!

Oh and a quick video of a Manix 2 lw in action.

ZT 566

It's assisted, framelock, decent steel, low profile pocket clip, open design for easy cleaning/disinfecting, USA-made. The ZT 350 was suggested too, and it is a good knife if she likes recurve.

Don't think she cares about recurve. As the sharpener, I do. :) And I agree the ZT knives are nice.

Just looked at the LUDT. Elmax steel!

What do you use to sharpen your knives?

My Barrage has never failed me... benchmade makes a smaller version too and a related model that has a larger handle which is like a mix of the two

I'd recommend something like the Bento Box exclusive Lil' Matriarch from Spyderco. A plain edged hawkbill.

We have a pretty good local selection of knives. She tried three of the recommendations.

Paramilitary 2: she disliked almost everything about it. Handle too long, blade too short, not comfortable, hated the deployment hole. I asked her to just hold it for a minute and consider the balance. Nope - still didn't like it. This is far too big for me to EDC, but I really like this knife.

Blur: She likes the knife. Unsure if it's the right one for her, but it's one she would consider. Except she hates the handle grip tape. I really like this knife as well and will probably keep it for myself.

ZT 0350: She really likes this knife. She likes everything about it. "This seems like it would be too big and too heavy. But it's not." She wants to see a few others but would be happy carrying this at work. I could not be more surprised that she likes this knife.

That is awesome! Glad she found a place she could test out and see what she likes!

Back in the day, we didn't have as many choices. So I carried an Emerson and a blackie collins.
Once we got more choices, I have stuck with Protech TR3 or Benchmade Persidio auto.

(I should qualify this by saying I was a medic)

Benchmade just introduced the persidio 2.0.

I would suggest she take a look at these two knives before deciding. The axis auto is a blessing when dawning gloves and needing ambidextrous functionality. The auto function makes deployment a snap.

As for serrations, I had them on mine. And sharpened like a regular knife. Pretty soon, they all went away so when I got a new blade, I just got a plain one.

I have handled the triage, and it's a great knife. But I prefer the persidio.

Very cool that she liked the 350. The recurve adds a little bit of grab of the materials you are cutting on the draw back too.

Another vote for a 350, awesome EDC for all first responders and Military personnel, classic ZT look, and very manageable. My "Beater" EDC with a 456 backup for a change up and a 770 as a "dress" knife.

Feedback on two more:

American Lawman: Handle too large for her. Not a big fan of the deployment. She'd prefer assist with that size blade. Also doesn't like the effort required on the lock. This knife is a beast and is rock solid. I may keep this for my car.

ProTech TR3: She likes it overall but not the grooved handle. I got that one because the fish scale handle is out of stock. She's a little concerned about the metal handle in the cold, so the CF inlay may be the best option for her. So despite the negatives this could be the one. I don't really like auto knives and I prefer a handle that's a little grippier. So on paper I did like like this knife. But in my hand this is a really nice knife. All the recommendations in this thread are great. For me, this one is a little special. It just feels right in my hand and it exudes quality.
