New knife for Paramedic...

Couple of other relevant things: Some example of uses on the job: zip ties, clothing, plastic and rubber tubing, seat belts, and 100s of things that are always unexpected. She uses sheers as well. Can't tell you how/when/why one over the other. I can tell you other medics ask to borrow her knife all the time.

One other feature she would like is an O2 wrench in the handle. A lot of rescue knifes have O2 wrenches, but none of them get it right for her. She doesn't want to have to open it the O2 wrench. She wants it in the handle so it can be used quickly and one-handed.

The Gorgon has an oblong lanyard hole that's pretty close to the right size. It could be enlarged and squared up in the corners. I may try to drill it out with a square drill or let a machine shop cut it out. Even if she never used it, huge value to her to have it on the knife handle.

For any knife makers reading, this is the right way to do an O2 wrench accessory for many medics.

The Gerber rescue knife has an O2 wrench on the handle. It is designed for gloved hands. Blunt tip with serrations. I have one and tried it for a week. My fish scale Tr3 and presidio auto beat it out of my pocket. In 20 years of medic/rescue work, I have yet to find a better knife for me, than the TR3 or the auto presidio.
I also carry medic shears

The Gerber is a good example of exactly what she doesn't want. It looks like the O2 wrench has to flip out to be used. (EDIT: maybe not - maybe can be used in place?). Serrated blade and glass breaker poking out the end are unacceptable to her.

What she wants is a O2 wrench shaped hole in the scales - the whole knife is a wrench that way and there's nothing to open. She doesn't want any extraneous features or functions that can snag on something, break, or otherwise complicate things. Every rescue tool she's looked at misses the mark by a lot for her. Could be her requirements are different that others. However, practically every medic (and some cops) she works with want her work EDC set up, minus the O2 wrench for cops, of course.

And she's a minimalist: good O2 wrench, good knife, sheers, very good flashlight, very good pen light. That's all she carries. (Gloves, of course). Every medic and cop she works with want her flashlight, all the medics want her O2 wrench, and many want one of her knives. (Her flashlight is an Olight - don't recall the model. It's right between being beamy and floody, and bright but not too bright. She's tried everything - this is the one.)

The o2 tool is on the other side. it does not fold out. its part of the scales.
ill be honest, i dont have one, so i dont know if the blade has to be deployed to use it. i would hope it doesnt have to be, but who knows.

iimage for clarity. - note gerber also has a black version with a pointed tip and different blade all together but the scales/handles are the same. the tool that folds out is for cutting seat belts.

i have also seen Pry bars with O2 tools on them. this seems much more convenient, but im not sure how often anyone would use a pry bar, but if it fits on a keychain it could work in the field. link as an example http://www.pockettoolworks.com/uploads/2/2/8/7/22870392/s109525774750098480_p89_i8_w850.jpeg

if you have a flat titanium or steel knife (scales), you can probably get someone to mill out the scales to have this O2 wrench feature. again, might depend on the thickness of the scales, id be unsure about having the knife blade deployed in order to use it.

Got it - looked online but didn't see that side of the tool. Thanks for posting. That's pretty much exactly what she's looking for in terms of an embedded O2 wrench.

That looks fantastic, and seems obvious now that I see it. However, she hates thumb holes. But this is absolutely another option.

Yeah, I mean there are tons of nice knives available with oblong holes that could work, and holes are typically revered for their ease of opening with gloves on;
Steadmon deep sea monster (china)
Viper Vox Odino (italy)
Boker Aurora (germany)

especially easy when coupled with a flipper tab;
Buck Vantage Pro (usa)
Viper Vox Fortis (italy)

Or even a bit above the price range;
Heretic Martyr (usa)
*(available in multiple colors)

All look like their thumb holes would work as an o2 wrench. I don't know the exact dimension of an o2 tank or each individual knife hole, but they all do appear to fit the bill between a Sacha Thiel Officer and a Strider hole (which the video says also works).
And if they're just a tad bit too small, a small file can easily fix that.

Just a few more options for ya.
