I saw a thread on another forum where he posted some pics of knives he was in the process of finishing. I thought, wow those look like they would make great field blades and contacted him. His name is John Landi, and he said this particular knife was not perfect (though it is very hard to tell and does nothing to compromise the knife) and gave me an unbelievable price on it. The best part was, I was his first customer, I thought that was pretty cool ;) He is well on the way to having a long waiting list!

This thing feels great in hand, has a nice thick handle in red Micarta. (Blade isn't scratched, just smudges)

Steel is 1095 and has a nice satin finish

He also does some nice sheathwork.

Everybody needs to start somewhere. Knife looks like a great user to me. Not a huge fan of the coil, but thats just my petty critique.

Great materials, and great blade shape. Reminds me of a F1 a little.

Congrats Thayne......

pretty cool knife T... about how long is that blade and what kind of steel is it...

One thing really encouraging with a lot of these new blades people are posting is the handles are big enough:thumbup:

Blade is around 4 1/2" - 5" 1095 steel. I wasn't sure I'd like the deep choil myself, but when I wrap my hand around it, it feels comfortable. I'm going to take it out this weekend and do some carving with it.

Yeah I really like a nice thick handle, so much more comfy than a thinner one!

Great looking knife! And I was just telling my sons that I thought I might be done buying more knives...

Great looking knife! Good steel too... can you post a link with some contact info? Perhaps a link to the forum and thread you found? thanks, Scott

It reminds me a bit of the forum knife from your sig.
The choil seems really deep, but I want to try holding it all the same.

Thanks for the info! Now stop with the great pics of new knives!!!!!!!!!! My wallet cries out for a break

Hey Thane,

I am truly glad that you like your knife. I am looking forward to your impressions about it out in the field. I just took mine (my first knife built was identical except it was a clip point style blade) on a camping trip onto the Appalachian Trail over the weekend and it did well. It was the first time I had gone camping in the winter, it was 16 degrees F at 6AM on Sunday morning...and I thought to myself, I'm still alive!

I do have four more like that one. I will be posting them in the for sale section of BF within the week or so. I just got my makers title this morning, in order to do such things.

I hope I am not highjacking your thread, but, some pics and more specs if anyone is interested.

Thane, again thanks for business and hospitality!

Regards,
John Landi

John, one of he most difficult things about being here is seeing so much great work like yours. Why?

"....so many beautiful knives, not enuff money."

Hey Brian,

Lol, thanks - it is humbling to put the knife maker title beside my name on BF. There are so many great makers here, and I am just an amateur...thanks Brian.

I like the knife!

And I felt the same way about upgrading to knifemaker member.

I sent you an email about one of them if thats ok. nice knives I like your work, simple but purpose built.

John glad you were able to stop in. I always enjoy it when the makers are able to join the discussions here about their work  Once I get to play with it in the field I will get a better impression of how it handles. But just in playing with it around the house I really like the way it feels in hand with the thick, hand filling handle. Some makers put very thin scales on an otherwise great knife and it makes it uncomfortable to work with.

Tknife, make sure you put it through inThane amounts of abuse!

Oh......the inthanity!

Ok, I really am in need of a nap.

I do like thick handles, for my next batch I will be ordering some 3/8 Micarta instead of 1/4. More room to carve and contour, yet still have some meat left to hang onto.

Take care and thanks again.
