New knife from a new maker

Today was such a nice day I decided to skip the gym and go for a hike and brought this knife. Found a new area that's only 4 miles from my house too!

Lots of scrubby mulefat and other cool stuff to carve and chop on.

Chopped through thumb sized branches in one or two swings

My wife even whittled with it with no problem

I'm definitely coming back to this area! Lots of places to explore and it is nice and secluded for testing blades

Hey Shane,

Those Pics look great! What a great hike. How did the sheath work out?

I have been playing around with different belt/career configurations. I can get some pics up later... but, I used an X type configuration when I went out over the weekend. It was tight but, rode a little to high.

How did the belt loop work for you?

The sheath does ride a little high. I like the sheath design a lot, but for field blades I usually like a pouch type sheath where I can just slip the knife in and out. But I also carry knives strapped to my pack instead of on my belt a lot too, in which this one worked perfectly and was nice and secure.

great pics T... looks like a cool area to hike.. reminds me a lot of where i grew up, in Gilroy CA..

Gilroy is only about an hour and a half north of me. I love the whole area up there by Santa Barbara!

Good feedback. A pouch style is actually a lot easier to make. In the future I will ask for a preference.

By X config I mean this:

Sorry for the bad pic - Mac camera...

It did ride high - but, if you were strapping it to a pack it would allow you to string a strap vertically - the space is about 1 1/4 inches wide (again for vertical) about 2 1/2 for horizontal carry. I am working on a rig that would allow for all options...

if gilroy is only about an hour and a half from you.. then you're only about 2.5 hours form santa cruz... :o you and the misses need to come over this summer dude... we have a couple of cool spots to go and watch music close by.. not to mention tons of trails and woods to play in...:D

that is a cool knife dude.... the more i see the more i like it... great work john..

Dang it I was wrong, I was thinking of Goleta. Gilroy is further, but I remember thats the town that smells like garlic! :D

Oh yeah, that X config would be cool for strapping to a pack, or even wearing it tracker style across he small of the back, I like it!
