New Knife Guard

My clue was much more subtle than Nathan's.

I will say that with enough heat and pressure it is amazing what things change into.

This has serious potential for a 52100 short sword.

it's soft, why would I harden it?

Sam, I something all typed out in response to this.............. and decided not to post it! :devilish:  :D

So is there video of this b.............................. being all mashed into formation?

I still say it reminds me of an old coin!

thanks very much everyone. No blade for it yet sadly though I am thinking of one.

Don't know if it should be along the same vein with just crushed flat chain, or maybe a simple natural subdued Japanese styled blade.

Sam,
You may have hit on a neat looking blade.

Take a piece of chain and weld it up, then draw it out into a square bar. ( Or, maybe a canister weld with 1080 powder?)
Clean up the bar and then weld it to a matching bar of 1084. This composite bar can be drawn out and forged into a blade with a chain spine and a 1084 edge bevel.

If my press was running I would be trying this this weekend.

I wouldn't want to just make up a chain billet, I would want to just weld the chain so it was obvious what it was, not like some polished thing.
