New Knife Guy- Recommended something please??

I think my next purchase will be a zt566 black washed and cf. I guess I just need to man up and not be scared to scratch my pretty knives.:D traditional slip joint is on the list as well as a SAK and maybe a spyderco delica. I love my spydies!

Very nice choice. I had an 0566 early on that I customized with a CF scale and some titanium parts. It was a touch too small for my hands, but the knife remains as one of my favorite designs.

If you're stepping down in size, the Spyderco Dice is a great knife (just got one recently and can't put it down!) and even smaller is the Spyderco Dragonfly. It's truly a little big knife. It's a fantastic EDC knife that disappears in your pocket, but cuts like a much bigger knife. I never leave home without mine! :)

If the Spyderco Delica appeals to you, OP, you really ought to try one. Fantastic EDC design and many different flavours to choose from...

Alox SAK is a must...

Victorinox Pioneer and Cadet

And a Traditional pattern that tickles your fancy...

Good luck! :)

If you're really trying to "cover all the bases" I'll make two comments and a few suggestions:

1.) You're already Spyderco heavy, and 2.) All of those knives you listed are basically "same" in a broad sense; and most of those being recommended you here are great knives but still.....kinda 'same'

I like diversity in my collection too. If you're wanting to start branching out I'd look at a DPx HEST 2.0 folder. It is more of an "outdoor" or heavy duty knife than some you own. A little different look too, but as good a knife as any of them. It would give you a dedicated "outdoor" folder, and one of the best. A very good knife to have around.

I can also back the recommendations of the Al Mar SERE and Fallkniven folders. And of course a good Swiss Army knife is mandatory--I assume you already have one.

Don't forget a Buck 110 somewhere down the road as well. A classic and a good folder.

Any of these are excellent knives and will begin to branch out your collection into slightly different styles/types of folder. Good luck.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and maybe an Emerson...as the guy below me just posted. Another good choice.

Sorry but I'm going to have to recommend the Gayle Bradley... you simply can't go wrong w/ it! And it has cf, but is a work horse of a knife.

If you love Spydies and don't have a Military, you need to own one, in my humble opinion. It's my favorite production folder and I EDC one (of the four that I have now) for about eight years now (in my right back pocket). Of course the same goes for a Victorinox.

Pick up an Opinel. Proven design (in fact one of the best designed anything ever), simple, inexpensive and one of the best slicers you will ever own.

Blang, check you visitor messages, regarding the spyderco in my sig.

I would also like to recommend the spyderco vallotin sub hilt. It's the most UN-Spyderco looking knife from them and I love mine. Can't stand spyderco otherwise.

Victorinox Pioneer or Farmer in alox would be a great knife to carry. I like having a slip joint to use in public and keep my locking folder concealed.

If you are looking at some outdoor trips consider picking up a fixed blade.

Hey guys i recently got into the whole "good" knives thing. Over the past little while I've aquired a pm2, sage 1, ambitious, ontario rat 1, and a bm 940-1 first production. I'm trying to cover all the bases. I want to get something else. I want to stay in the > 160$ range. It will be used for edc mainly. What other essential folders are there? I basically want to add some diversity. I've got the bug real bad. Please help me...

Hi,if you are interested to get the most value for your money - than i will highly recommend you GO HANDMADE, FORGED HIGH CARBON SPRING STEEL 5160-zone tempered and precisely heat treated fixed blades-! Definitely check for this purpose Nepalese bladesmiths/Kami at KHHI (Khukuri House Handicraft Industry) and also HI (Himalayan Imports) - both are top class genuine Khukuri manufacturers and both also do custom made orders....Their knifes are all entirely handmade from highest quality materials, check their websites first, drop them an email with photograph of knife you wish to make, dimensions etc.For 160 bucks you will get very solid purchase. To make any order take few weeks, but well worth it....If you look only for mass produced factory machine made knifes, than i'd go with Kyzliar Knifes or SOG

Quick question: Do you find the Military too large? I have a PM 2 and I love the size of it, along with my ZT 0566. I should also note that I have smaller hands, I'm about 5'5"

For ZT, I would go with the 566BWCF. I love mine. It is about as big as I would want to go.

Like I said: the Millie is my GOAT favorite production folder; I am EDC'ing one (of four) for about eight years now, in my right back pocket (and a SAK in my front). So I most definitely do not find it too large ;) Also best food prep folder that I've ever owned. Further I am 5'5" too and have XS hands :D By the way, it is because of the smaller hands I think, that I am one of the very few knife nuts who carries strictly tip-DOWN, unfortunately :o

Lastly, carrying a PM2 and a 0566 together, seems a bit strange to me, because they're so comparable--PM2 has a 3.4" blade, the 0566 a 3.25" one.

It does seem very redundant for me to carry both. But I like knowing that I have two more than capable knives with me at all times. The 566 is much heavier than the PM 2 so I think the weight difference is perfect. I also carry a LM Wingman in my backpack. So I do have a smaller blade for certain occasions. Most of the time though I'll either choose between the ZT and PM and then just use my Mini Grip as my smaller blade of choice.
