new knife?

What are you looking to use the folder for? Every Day Carry? Outdoors stuff?

Do you like more tactical looking? More traditional looking?

Do you want to carry it in a pouch? Clipped in your pocket? Just sitting in your pocket?

Do you like single blades? Would you rather have a swiss army type multitool with screwdrivers, scissors, can opener, etc...?

That should help us out a bit :)

P.S. Welcome to the forum!

i want a single blade for camping and outdoor stuff. I would use a sheath. i would prefer a tactical look but i like traditional too. thanks for the help

buck 110 or 112 hard to beat for the value...and tough as nails...can be had for right around 30 if you shop around...Or you could go with 1 if my favorite camping knives...the victorinox rucksack..has a main locking blade and a great wood saw..

Buck 110 always a solid choice.
Ka-bar folder for around 20 dollars your choice of a clip or drop point.
Case Sod buster (this is a single blade without a lock referred to as a slip joint).

There is another folder I believe its called Outdoor edge. They make a solid folder for under 30 dollars as well, with a drop point and assisted thumb studs for opening.
I forgot to mention the Ka-bar folding knives have assisted opening as well. These knives are around 20ish and are quality for the $$$.

m'kay.

Well just as a heads up, the $30ish price range is going to severly limit your choices. If you could double that, there is a world of good knives available.

Your first option is to check our Exchange forum. You can find good knives for a lot cheaper than retail. There are some tried and true standards that retail in the $60 range that you may be able to find slightly used for $30. Spyderco Delica, Kershaw Cyclone, Benchmade Griptilian, for example.

If you want to go retail, then here's what I'd say:
In the $30-$40 price range, I'd recommend:
CRKT (Columbia River Knife and Tool) M16
Benchmade Ambush or Mini Ambush
Ka-Bar Mule

If you can go with a more traditional look, then my first choice is the Buck 110.

If you can stand to have some more stuff on your knife, then Swiss Army Knives can be had in various models for $30.

I'll think about it some more.

Buck actually makes quite a few knives in the $30 price range that are more tactical looking. I'd sooner put my money on the 110, but if tactical is a preference, check out the:
Buck Adrenaline
Buck Iceman
Buck Ghost Rider
Buck Stealth

These are all made over seas, and I have never touched any of them. If Buck looks like a way you would go, and you don't like the 110, I would ask over in the Buck Knives forum what people think of some of these tactical models.

See this post where someone asked a similar question about a $35 folder:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=554078&highlight=ambush

As far as the Ambush, it seems from what I'm reading that most people prefer the Benchmade Vex instead. They're both what are called "Red Class" Benchmades, which is the budget line of Benchmades made with cheaper steel and whatnot. The Vex is a liner lock, whereas the Ambush is what they call a "Rolling Lock". It seems quite a few people have cut themselves trying to disengage the rolling lock. Not something you want to have happen in the field.

thanks for the help...i think im going to get the 110 but im going to see what the buck forum thinks

The larger Gerber LST would also fit in your price range although not as hefty as the buck lines but very sharp and light weight.

There's a lot of people here that have $300+ fixed blades, and still choose the 110 as their folder.

Want to have some fun? Go over to the Buck forum and put up a post called "Is the Buck 110 any good?" LOL. :D
