New locking SAKs coming?

I think I’ve opened a can with a SAK maybe twice in over 30 years of knife use, but I use that tool all the time. It’s basically a metal fingernail.

Agreed. This package opener tool is objectively better in an EDC role than a can opener has ever been (at least in my use case, maybe there are folks here who are opening cans the hard way every day! LOL). I am looking forward to being able to clip a SAK to my pocket without having to pay out for an aftermarket modification or just leave it floundering in the bottom of my pocket like they do now.
As I mentioned above, I use the can opener all the time, just not for opening cans. I disagree the package opener is objectively better, especially on a tool that has a blade.

That being said, someone wanting a package opener isn’t wrong, it’s just not for me.

It’s subjective preference based on one’s use case, so I’m glad victorinox is offering options.

Well, it's perfectly fine to disagree. It just is a bad look to be hysterical and all "Victorinox needs to come to their senses!!!!!!" when A. innovation isn't a bad thing and B. dozens of models with can openers still exist and are being sold. Victorinox has seen that people often carry multitools and locking blade folding knives clipped to a pocket. It's simply an evolution of their current product to reformat it with those features. It will probably bring more customers to them who may have not considered a Victorinox product before, and that's a good thing, objectively.

IMO, lock and pocket clip are great options to offer .

Many customers for pocket knives ,these days ,expect to have such features ,and won't buy otherwise .

Doesn't mean the older versions have to go away . 🤷‍♂️

I carry a Victorinox Hiker daily but the one thing it lacks is the ability to safely stab something (or someone defensively, of course) so yeah...I would be down for a locking version!

Yep, I agree. I’m not critical of Vic trying new things.

I really like these new tools, but cant say am excited about the look. Hopefully down the line, a more traditional scale or alox design will implement these new capabilities.

That's Me! I haven't used a traditional can opener in decades. Now, That makes me feel old. I've even used it on the rare cans where the pull tab breaks.

Oh no, I think a little hysteria is a good thing. I mean, look at what happened when that Italian guy sailed off to prove the world wasn't flat. And all the chaos that followed with the problems of a new world!

Next thing you'll tell me that man has walked on the moon!o_O

Yah, I think it would get pretty nasty in the barn with those open scales.

Same for me with the Corkscrew on the majority of 91mm SAK’s, I’ve never opened a bottle of wine with one. Not looking likely now either as all the wine I drink either has a screw cap or a Champagne cork.

Zero reason to put your SAK in the pocket.

You can add a small trigger clamp like on a puppy leash to the split ring, or use a small carabiner through the SAK splitrubing to clip the SAK to a belt loop or a 1" split ring on the belt loop.(Or spend "too much" for a SAK belt drop with or without a lanyard, and clip to it.)

I've carried my SAK (or 4 blade Scout-camp/Demo knife) on a belt loop or AAK hanger I spent "too much" for around 20 years ago) for over 60 years. The pocket is where the Stockman or other folding knife (or folding knives) of choice goes. 🙂

Politely, I don't agree with the bolded part at all.

Part of the value of pocket knives like the SAK is that it, you know, goes in your pocket, out of view. Also, tying knives to my belt loops is an absolute nonstarter to me. That's why they come with pocket clips. Glad to see Victorinox getting onboard where everyone else has been for the last thirty years. Even Leathermans come with pocket clips now! 🤣

Amusingly, the package opener tool can do virtually all of those same things. In any case, folks are free to choose the models that work best for them. I for one am glad that Victorinox is bringing an actual SAK to market with a locking blade and a pocket clip. I have Victorinox knives with pocket clips, and those with locking blades. Fantastic that we'll be able to have both, on a pretty standard SAK toolset knife.

Lol that you asked a robot how to use a pocket knife.
