New locking SAKs coming?

What is the weight advantage compared to classic alox?
There are slots in the handle but, on the other side, there is a non removable pocket clip.

With ally scales already light, I can't imagine the weight saving would be more than a fraction of an ounce. And the non removable clip is a total deal breaker for me. I hate pocket clips and they get in the way if you are really using the knife or one of the tools.

Ordered the red Synergy X. This is good, if it works out, I'll circle back and grab others, I think.

These are clearly designed to attract non-Victorinox carrying customers. Honestly, the Celidor scale models are lighter than ALOX as is, so if weight is a real concern, I wouldn't think you'd be carrying an ALOX model at all. 🤷

Soooo, the pocket clip is non removable and theres no lanyard/keyring. Plus the slots in the handle let in all kinds of pocket lint and crud. And those slots have to be milled in so that requires more machine work, and that will run there cost up unnecessarily. I'm sure Victorinox will not swallow the cost of extra machine out of the goodness of their corporate heart.

This reminds me of when Volkswagen decided to kill off the Beatle and come out with a "modern" car, the Rabbit. The piece of junk that killed the good reputation of VW and was generally in the junk yard 10 years after purchase.

I don't see how this is going to end in anything good.

LOL The hysterics over a company trying something new is absolutely entertaining, if nothing else. "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!"

Meanwhile over on the Facebook and Reddit groups, actual Victorinox fans and collectors are pretty jazzed for something new. And look, the Synergy X even has scissors, something SAK fans always appreciate.

Also, the Rabbit was actually the Golf and was a world-wide success. Maybe the same story for these new Victorinox models?

Just ordered a silver Synergy X. Have to admit that the knife grew on me when I saw it in silver. It will be interesting to compare it to the Companion. As far as I remember the toolset is equivalent, minus the back tools/ Scale accessories.

It will definitively need some adjustment from the fan base. I however have begun appreciating some peculiarities of these new knives. I find it encouraging that we now have different finishes in the scales ( Brushed, knurled and perforated), as well as Victorinox's take on a skeletonized tool.

It is also interesting to see that the scissors are in anninverted pivot from their position in the Companion.

Groundbreaking? no. However, as enthusiasts, thoughtful details are the way we appreciate evolution of tools. Hopefuly people who currently dislike this collection will someday find something interesting in them.

Was looking at a pioneer x and saw these today and thought they looked pretty cool. I'll probably grab the blue one.

...lol what do you think will happen, these fail and the company goes belly up or they catch on a lot and stop making the same ones they have for 50 years? It seems like a bit of an overreaction, no?

I ended up buying 2 Synergy X as well. I fully understand the desire to have a backup. One I got early this morning from a site and could only get silver but wanted red. Then later saw victorinox site finally showing them and picked up a red one. Unless they later release a Alox Rambler or a mini swiss tool Spirit something or other, I'm happy. Synergy X is pretty much all I could ask for unless they could incorporate the scale tools, or to be really honest just have solid Alox scales. Cut outs are neat and new and only getting it in hand and time will tell if they don't break or bend in the thinner areas. But that's like wishing for the new nail file pattern on a classic SD or Rambler. That would be peak.

These new offerings can by no means replace the slipjoints they've been making for around a century as they can't even sell these in the European market as they lock

I generally carry my farmer x as a work knife , but that synergy x would be useful. I missed the first of them around a hundred. They went fast !

No they aren't. I'm glad you are excited but there are lot of people who also don't like the opened up design.

Those new Alox models, to me, seem pretty.... dull 🙃

What is the need for skeletonized scales? At first I thought the knife offered some disassembly mechanism, allowing modularity. False hope!

But the price has been greatly increased, so it's all good for Victorinox!

In a large part of the "European Market" these can be sold easily.
There is no pan-European law banning locking knives, the same way that there is no pan-American law on knives.
