I just started getting into knives the last two months. I come from a firearms background...buying, selling and collecting pistols and rifles for 25 years. I guess I needed a new expensive hobby that I can't afford either
The only knife I owned was a Microtech Ultratech that I bought in 2010. I carried it, but never really used it. I just sold it a couple of days ago. I picked up a Combat Troodon a year ago that I have up for sale right now. I just bought them because I though they were cool. I didn't give any serious thought as to whether they would actually be useful or not.
After a shooting buddy of mine, who is really into knives, started getting me interested in knives, I spent a few months doing some research. Mainly looking through the different sections of knives for sale on bladehq.com. I found myself particularly attracted to over-built knives. The Medford Praetorian defined that look for me. So I bought one. You can see it and my subsequent acquisitions below.
Clearly I like Medford knives. I see a lot of folks on here are not big fans. All that really matters is if I like them anyway. Lots of folks on here say they don't cut well, they are to thick etc. I'll tell you, I get a bunch of those FedEx Small and Medium boxes on a daily basis at my office. The pull tab you are supposed to pull to open them never works. It always rips out. I pull out my Praetorian or 187F and it slices the end of those boxes off like a hot knife through butter. About ten times easier than any box cutter I have in my office or warehouse. To each their own.
Here are my acquisitions over the last two months:
First is the new Praetorian that just showed up today. It has a black G10 scale on the front and a blue anodized titanium slab on the back. That blue slab seems to be a pretty unique for a G10 Praetorian. Looks awesome in person. Plus I really wanted a Drop Point Praetorian because I already had the Tanto, and needed one of both
These are the first three Medfords I bought that started it all
Then I grabbed this ZT 0561 because I really wanted a nice tan flipper (I really need to shoot a better pic than that, but the baby is sleeping. Yes I am 47 and have a 16 month old. And a hot younger wife too
I also wanted to have a fixed blade in the arsenal for when I go out training with my ex-military training buddies. I was really drawn to this Southern Grind Jackal:
Unless I can sell it, this is my collector knife. It is way too nice to even consider carrying.
