Hello! Thank you for the add in.

I am looking into buying a Gerber knife that looks exactly like this:
ref=sr_1_5

I found it for $40 on Craigslist. Is this a good knife? Is it worth it? Thanks in advance.

(P.S. I also found a simple knife on LetGo for $30 - however, it doesn’t have the little tab on the side. Does that make a difference? It is also a plain blade, no serration.)

Or if any of you guys have a better suggest for a good quality spring assisted knife? (Under $40 preferably)

Check out the Boker Kalashnikov tanto. Peep some Kershaws as well. The Kershaws will be a little bit more expensive. That's just me though, brother. I didn't like the reviews on the Gerber. Lots of people out here know way more then me on this subject, I know you'll get some great answers. But here's a start.

Ok, thank you for your reply. So Boker is a pretty good brand? As far as knife/blade quality?

I will wait for others to reply. I really liked the reviews and look of the knife I provided the link for, that’s why I’m asking. I also have a great deal right in front of me.

I use a boker stockman for whittling. But that's has far as I've got w/ Boker. I was just looking for a knife that was comparable to the Gerber, after reading some of its reviews. I'd definitely wait for others though. Smart choice

Gerber’s are hit and miss...mostly miss. Check out Kershaw or the Byrd line from Spyderco for some great options. Or just jump into a Spyderco. :)

Welcome to the forums!!

Does it have to be assisted?

If not, check out the Kershaw Natrix.

I’d be looking at Buck, either the 110 or 112. Stretching your budget a little. But you get a lot of quality and a lifetime warantee with Buck.

Buck has other folding knives I don’t have personal experience with but I trust Buck to deliver a solid knife. The Vantage looks nice.

Can't see your image, but Böker is either pretty good or awful, IMO.
Welcome to the forums:)
I tried to provide the link to it, but it got removed? Do I just provide the link to the Craigslist post?

I will look into the knife @Wanna Be Rambo Guy recommended, it looks pretty solid.

It seems that everyone says Kershaw is really good - do they make tactical knives? I am simply looking for a well built knife, that will last me a really long time.

Yes, I would prefer it to be spring assisted.

Thank you everyone so far! :)

Might be because you've linked to a site that doesn't support BF. If you save the image and post in on imgur then upload it here/become a member it's easier.

Welcome to Blade Forums!

I’d suggest you look at the Kershaw Link or Dividend.

I started my modern knife collecting with Gerber... in the late 1980’s. They were top notch then. Nowadays, there isn’t much that they offer that floats my boat. Their Portland made offerings and autos are good, but in my opinion, there’s better stuff out there for the money.

That said, it’s really hard to come into a forum of folks with a ton of knowledge AND a million differing opinions, asking what the “one true knife” is. This is especially true when only you know your needs, intended uses, and personal parameters and preferences. Would a modern Gerber meet most casual knife carriers needs? Probably, but you’re gonna find that as you fall deeper into this rabbit hole of knife collecting, there’s always something “better.”

I agree with the others posting before me that Kershaw probably provides better bang for your buck, especially their US made models. I’ve also had good experience with their customer service in the past, but have never dealt with Gerber.

Someone above said that Gerber is hit and miss and I have to agree. There is no question that there are better offerings for the money you spend.

I have handled a few of Kershaw's budget assisted knives and have been very impressed. I would look there before I gave Gerber any of my hard-earned cash.

I can get behind this. I have the mid size and XL g10/carbon fiber and theyre pretty decent knives. For a little bit more you can get a Bareknuckle, USA made with 14c28n steel. The Knockout, Link, and Dividend are pretty nice if you have to have assissted opening.

This is a really tough decision...

I am torn between the Kershaw “Clash” and “Link”. I also love the look of the Boker Kalashnikov and the Gerber knife I described. Here is what the Gerber looks like:

Very nice looking huh? Only $40. (I found one for $30, but it does have the little tab on the handle)

You can find a Blur S30v for around 70 bucks.

A Dividend for around 40. I actually prefer the FRN version a bit better. Thin knife good for cutting, but not that “tactical”.

This Blur can be found for under 50 if you look around. My first choice for your needs in my opinion.

A non-assisted option, flips great, about 40 bucks.

The Link is probably right up your alley at 40 dollars and very stout.
