Wow! Another exclusive dealer collaboration. I can't afford all these. Any idea how many will be mad? Green-T blades? How did you find out about it?

I don't know about the Green T thing, but there are a limited number. I didn't hear HOW MANY are being offered, but the blades are serial numbered. I heard about it from Emerson, via email. I saw a listing for a "new protoype tanto" on Emerson's relaunched website (the one we were NOT supposed to see!), and emailed EKI about it. I got a response pretty fast saying I&I Sports would have them soon. I bugged the hell out of Roy at I&I, and was finally able to place an order today.

Hmmm, that looks familiar . . . where have I seen that before . . .

Nothing scientific here, but judging by the size of the clip/ratio, it appears it's going to be just a bit longer then a Commander, maybe a four inch blade.

I keep hearing about this Japanese Magazine or book called "Tactical Knives" I've been looking for a copy of this with no sucess. Can someone help me out with this.Thanks.

John:

Thanks for reminding me where I saw that knife. Personally I much prefer the knife shown on page 101!

David: I bought the book in July from Kinokuniya Books at 10 W. 49th St. in N.Y.

The had it in stock and sent it to me. Being in Long Island you could probably pretty easily check to see if it is still available. By the way their English is much better than my Japanese! The cost of the book and shipping was $39.00. It has lots of excellent photos!

Hi David- The book "Tactical Knives" should'nt be too hard to find, there is a Japanese bookstore in Manhattan called "Kinokuniya" they're on 49st bet. 5&6 ave. There is also a Japanese magazine called "Knife" which is a bi- monthly magazine also sold there. The store had several copies of the book in stock as of a month ago. I've displayed the cover of the book just so you know what you're looking for. If you need any more info just e mail me. Donald.

Sniper 308 & Nowhere Fast,
Thanks for the reply. I went into that store about 10 times & everytime I asked for the book they pointed to a rack where they only had "Knives". I asked for "Tactical Knives" but they keep telling me that it's sold out. Anyone have an extra copy they want to sell or maybe the book store can order another copy for me? This book is as hard to find as Emerson Customs

. Or maybe it's just my lousy luck.

Speaking of that new model. I have an old photo catalog (8/98) from Les Robertson and there is a photo of this knife, black blade and capsule hole opener but there is no info about the knife as it just says "Sold" for the info.
Also, underneath it there is another Emerson folder which he just calls "early folder", it has 3 1/2" blade, black micarta handles and aluminum bolsters and the logo is "Emerson Knives" with a Bowie in between. The price even back then was 1900.
John H, if you don't already have these photo's, do you need them for the Gallery? I can take a photo and e mail to you but the photo's are very small. They are pictured on a 3x5 photo along with 25 other knives.
Thanks, Donald.

Sniper308 The Rhino is nice, but I'm kind of partial to the top of page 103 (ES1-M for those with out the book).

Nowhere Fast We have the early Bowie logoed folder that Les had. He was kind enough to provide a picture. I hope to have pictures of the only two "Tanto Prototypes" that I know where are very soon.

John

The I&I knife is very similar to the custom protos Ernie made, one of which Les had back in 98. The difference is the fact that the customs had an oblong thumb hole and they were not serrated. That aside, the first proto made was black oxided with the old EMERSON half moon logo. The second is black T with the SPECWAR logo.
I will be posting pics of both of these knives by Thanksgiving.

BTW, the protos are 4" blades.

I like the knife, which is, as Ark said, a nice version of the prototypes made around mid 90s. I believe two were also made with 3 3/8" blades, at least one of which had a beadblasted finish. It was rebeaded for me by Emerson in '98.

By the way, who is that Martial Artist on the cover of the book? He could inspire a subcult following of his own, don't you think? Maybe even a forum...

Damn!

I'd like the meet the dude in the photo! I heard this is what he looks like if he thinks someone is trying to get one of his Emerson Customs!
