New Modified Pig Sticker

Very nice.

That should give the biggest of them heart burn. :D

Here’s some hog sticken pics fro OZ, taken just before last summer.

These fellas are friends of mine and are dogging professionally for the meat market.

Great pics Ian!

Is that typical cover for your hunts? It's quite a bit more dense brush here -- East Texas... Those pics look a bit like west and south texas though.

I've been looking hard at a Marlin 45-70 guide series lately -- gotta have something to match that BM-e!

Those shots were taken in western NSW, it’s mainly scrub, lignum and clay pan country. More sheep country than cattle.

Pigs in OZ, thrive in any terrain, with some huge fellas found in mountainous country. Where they can live to a ripe old age undetected. :D

A knife that I really fancy in pig country is the SJ-tac (I haven’t tried it yet.) but it feels just right for sticking and skinning.

I really like the mods on your BM. After seeing your pics, I started to wonder about modifying one of my Hell Razors. The swedge looks like it is begging to be sharpened. Has anyone ever made this mod??????????

Thanks guys for the compliments!

RJD, I thought the same thing about the HR -- the swedge and the 3/16" thickness would make it a great stabber. That was my plan all along until my guide told me to go longer (at 7", the HR should be plenty and then some -- 6" should do everything but the largest of boars around here -- but the 9" give you LOTS of room for mistake in angle, etc...)

If you're going to carry it much, you'll need to check the legalities of a double edged blade.

Go for it - I bet it'd be an awesome knife. The only other thing to consider is that it really limits the overall function of the knife. There's something about sharpening the other side that makes you not want to choke up on it and do as many day-to-day chores. It's just twice as apt to bite you!

If you like the look of it, you can always grind it down a little w/out sharpening it totally -- for a false edge. On my BM, only the first half of the swedge is actually sharpened, the second half is fale edge. It would penetrate almost as well, just wouldn't slice backwards like a true fighter -- but would remain as functional as an all-arounder or camp knife, etc...

Good Luck!

You read my mind! The Hell Razor with a partial double edge would be even better. I have a bench grinder but I don't think I have the skill to do it cleanly like ones in the picture.

I wonder if it would be possible to stick a wild pig without the use of the dogs? I once slapped an alligator in the head from the side of a tour boat in Florida. I think I caused the tour guide to shit in his pants and my wife wouldn't let me hear the end of it for the whole rest of the vacation.

Rich,

Thanks, I just shot coffee out my nose... damn, that's funny!

Here is a Custom Shop BM-E, the top is not sharpened, but could be. It is much lighter and faster in the hand.

WOW again

THAT is pretty serious business there. Knice Knives Randucci

The short answer to that is NO :D (unless it is a very small one) at least with a wild pig, you may get lucky enough to be able to grab it by a hind leg, but I seriously doubt it.

Once the dog has caught it you can hold its hind legs and roll it over and control it unaided until you either stick it or tie its legs. (front to the off side rear). We used to leave them strung out that way until we retuned to pick them up with the truck.

Here’s an old picture with my mate and myself holding a 307 pound sow, there’s still a dog on one ear nearly submerged into the water and another swimming behind me.

WOW, you mates are crazy!!!

Something about the whole man vs beast thing. I always wanted to wrestle a bear at a carnival.

I have a friend who did wrestle a black bear at a carnival...

It was on a chain, mitted and muzzled... My friend (about 6'2" and 240lbs) went in at him and the bear simply knocked him off his feet w/one swipe. He tried it one more time (to impress the girls) and after an even harder hit, he admitted defeat. He told me he's never felt anything THAT strong before -- woke up quite sore the next morning! :D

I esteem him for trying.

I recall that the quick math is that a 200 pound black bear is 6 times stronger than a 200 pound man. Even the small ones are not to be trifled with!!! Can't tell ya how many times I have heard folks say "oh it was only a small bear". They are top of the food chain in there enviornment for a reason :)

I once met a gentleman who wrestled a circus bear and won.

A bunch of buddies put him up to it, and he managed to get on the bear's back and get a choke hold around its neck. The owner made him let go when the bear fell down with its tongue hanging out! This was one tough dude though. He survived the Bataan (sp?) death march in WWII, and marched the last 7 or 10 miles carrying a buddy over his shoulder, after being bayonetted twice himself. He showed us the scars- one bayonette ripped open his neck from chin to collarbone, and there was another scar about 6 inches long just under his ribcage... had to tuck his guts back in...

Hmnn... That man sounds a little disconcerting to say the least

That's the kind of guy you want to be FRIENDS with :o :D :D
