Are you really covering your femoral artery with the muzzle there or is it just a trick of perspective?
 
Good eye!

It's perspective - notice my left arm is past my body (note the angle of my elbow) and my right hand is left of my head. The muzzle is nowhere near my groin. Those two point slings can be difficult to dismount.

Great reminder though! "Put them on safe and let them hang hot" can result in a negligent discharge. The weapon was dry before the pic, but no BHO and a mag in place yields the need for extra attention.

ETA:
I now remember why the weapon is so clean and I am not. I had already stripped and cleaned the weapon, but was asked to participate in a photo. I stuck an empty mag in the rifle, and had the pics taken. The above picture was a candid immediately after those photos were taken.

No BHO is one of the biggest design flaws with the AKM pattern, IMO.

ETA: as well as a short sight radius, and poor selector location.

But other than those three things, it is a great firearm.... Sorry, couldn't resist.

Don't forget the fun of mounting optics.

I actually like a quality AKM, but am not blinded by the koolaid.
