It should be the first one you see (besides the one in the header). Tom says it's released and will be available 7/24, which I suppose means that they'll start shipping on the 24th.

Anyone mind telling me what's so good about the Police line? It looks like a great knife; I'm not trying to knock it. It just looks a bit disproportional to me, too long for its skinniness. And the grip always struck me as not so good for such a long knife (SS), but the G10 looks to be an improvement.

Would it be fair to call this knife a bigger version of the Endura?

If this is what the final looks like:

the clip looks like it rides pretty low. That's a nice + imo.

I have never handled the stainless Endura, but I think the difference between it and the Police would be quite pronounced. The Police was designed with a couple of things in mind. One, it can be used as a striking tool while closed, either for "pain compliance" or as an improvised hammer for such things as breaking glass. Two, it packs as much blade as you can fit into the handle. People who gripe about the blade being too short for the handle on the Paramilitary have no room to complain on the Police. If the blade was any longer, the point would stick out of the end of the handle when the knife is closed.

The slenderness is a big advantage when you are already carrying a radio, mace, Tazer, cuffs, gun, magazines, baton and flashlight and would like a long cutting edge as well.

yablanowitz,

You seem to know your fair share of Spyderco knowledge. Do you know if the new police is going to be available in SE and PE? I assume that it is, I just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

Yes it's going to be available in plain edge & fully serrated !
I think everyone is going to need one of each !;)

it looks cool but it also looks a little and dare i say "goofy"? thats just me of course

if it had a liner lock, this version would be exactly what Chris Caracci was looking for when he approached Spyderco, in the early 90's, before he ended up going to Benchmade to have his AFCK design made. The Spydero historians here will know what I'm talking about.

Sal would probably tell you that it'd be more accurate to describe it as a highly evolved "Mariner with a tip/point," but it does indeed look like a bigger, black-handled version of the fairly new, FG, G-10, Endura 4, with the addition of a choil and without a lanyard hole.

I dunno, I always thought the vintage full sized Calypso as the Police 3.0
This new G10 Police still has room for further improvements I suppose...

Hi Bitter1,

I guess you would have to say the Police model has been looking "goofy" for 24 years now. It's been around longer than any other Spyderco knife model. Probably longer than most models from most companies.

Yes 3G, on both comments. An interesting history. Even more so since time and testing has shown the lock-back to be considerably stronger than the Walker linerlock.

We did give the new model a tad more belly than the earlier models and a stronger tip. It also uses the new "hourglass" clip in a 4 way config. All screw construction is a nice touch.

It is a fairly big knife. All in all, it's a large "chunk" of full flat VG-10 in a stong, easily carried format.

I'll carry one today.

I have to say, I have seen the standard SS Police, handled one in a Passaround years ago, and did not care for it. Saw an SE older G10 Police, really liked, didn't care for the price tag (it was already long disontinued by then). I can't buy more than a look right now :(. This isn't going to be a limited run, is it? When I get back on my feet, I'd like to get one of the PE G10 Police models.

Last but not least, I've had a few Dragonflys, all FRN. Picked one up in SS in a trade, liked it much more than the FRN. Reverse of my feelings on the SS vs G10 Police. Different opinions and all that... ;)

This thing looks like flat ground Endura with a choil - a dream coming true. I think I'm going to order one :) :grumpy: :) :grumpy:

Anybody knows how thick the blade is? Same as the original Police, 1/8" - 3mm? (edit: yep, 3mm, got from spyderco.com... let's make it 4mm next time ok? so its more manix-like :D)
Thanks,
Pavel

I've always loved the police model. I stopped carrying it in stainless when my grip in my right hand went bad due to nerve damage. I wore out a G10 model then. I'm excited about the new model and got in line to buy it as soon as I heard about them. Now, as the time nears to seeing them released I'm not sure I can afford it anymore. I'm going to try as I can hear it calling to me. Joe

That's true, but the lock-back design allows it to be totally ambidextrous. For a Patrolman (Or anyone who's in a profession where they may lose the use of one of their hands in a moments notice), that feature is very valuable. That's one of the reasons I really like B/M axis-lock & SOG arc-lock (I sometimes trade off between a Night Vision & a Pentagon Elite I), however the lock-back is simpler & has less chance of breaking (Or having a part/spring break), IMHO. For whatever reason, I prefer the size of the Delica (& actually like the Centofante 3 & 4s), but I may have to check out the newer G-10 Police model & get one.
