New Police

Yes 3G, on both comments. An interesting history. Even more so since time and testing has shown the lock-back to be considerably stronger than the Walker linerlock.

Sal, Thanks for providing some more history on the Police model!

Even before the testing proved it, I had always suspected that the front lock was much stronger than the liner lock, which is probably why my collection of Spyderco greatly outnumbers my collection of other brands. I don't think Chris Caracci agrees with that though. I remember him posting, back when he had a forum here, that he favored the liner lock version of his AFCK design over the axis lock version.

That's true, but the lock-back design allows it to be totally ambidextrous. For a Patrolman (Or anyone who's in a profession where they may lose the use of one of their hands in a moments notice), that feature is very valuable. That's one of the reasons I really like B/M axis-lock & SOG arc-lock (I sometimes trade off between a Night Vision & a Pentagon Elite I), however the lock-back is simpler & has less chance of breaking (Or having a part/spring break), IMHO. For whatever feason, I prefer the size of the Delica (& actually like the Centofante 3 & 4s), but I may have to check out the newer G-10 Police model & get one.

I absolutely agree with everything you just said! I must say I was surprised when I learned that Chris Caracci, at the time a Navy SEAL, wanted a liner lock version of the Police model made. Perhaps the fact that Emersons (CQC-6's) were becoming quite popular with the teams around that time, and they had liner locks, had something to do with it.

Mr. Glesser,

I will carry one when you get them to the knife stores so I can buy it!

Then check out the Rookie ;).
I'll probably be getting one of each, see if I prefer them to my Delica 3. My Delica 4 Wave isn't getting much pocket time lately.

I can't wait to buy one. I love my old G-10 full flat grind Police. The new design looks great. Without a doubt, the next knife I purchase.

Any tips as to where to get the new Police with reasonable shipping to Europe?

I know knifeworks.com, I like them but 34$ is a lor for shipping of one knife.

Mr. Berry from spydercovt.com hasn't responded to me (about a week now).

On ebay there is only one currently if I'm not mistaken? And the seller won't ship outside US.

So any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

Pavel

EDIT: nevermind, got it ordered! Man I can't wait!

I guess you would have to say the Police model has been looking "goofy" for 24 years now. It's been around longer than any other Spyderco knife model. Probably longer than most models from most companies.

I bought my first Spyderco knife in 1984 on a trip to the Grand Canyon when I worked for the U.S. Geological Survey. It was a Police model with the old block style slabs. I had that knife until 1990, when it was stolen by a "friend of a friend" who helped me move at that time. After I moved to California, I decided to replace the stolen Police model and was surprised to find the handle design had been slimmed down a bit. I had that one until 2003, when it was stolen by a druggie and alcoholic I was trying to help.

I'm now on my third one. I'll try to hang on to this one, but if this one gets stolen, too, at least I can be consoled by the fact the company still makes them and is still improving them.

Awesome. I have a plain edge on the way.

This should easily be my EDC until Spyderco puts out some of their new Ethnic line models. Then it still might be my EDC.

When it comes in I'll do a review and comparison between the new model and my older police full flat grind G-10 models (PE & SE).

I guess I will be waiting for another few days since it is the weekend coming up. UPS seems to run very slow in far West Texas.
