New Products Debuting at SHOT show!!!!!

Sorry boys, 440c is where its at.

Keep in mind the ESEE survival theory. K.I.S.S.

The higher end steels are all cool but the ease of sharpening in the field is a consideration as well as final cost and all that.

440c is a fantastic steel when properly heat-treated.

I think that's the 6.

But is this a Molle front for the Junglas?

Yes, they are making a MOLLE Front for the Junglas.

That is factoring into my decision to get one. It will be sweet to attach your 3, 4, Izula with MOLLE Clips onto the front of the Junglas sheath.

or any number of pouches! i already wanted one, but this definitely pushes me over the edge. :)

Hi there,

i finally have to make my first post here.
First of all: I like the ESEE-3 Folder and the ESEE-4 stainless protos a lot. As soon as these are released they are a must-buy for me. But I understand the discussion about a smaller/no choil on ESEE knives because a choil can be a more hindering than helping thing. And as the ESEE-4 SS is a prototype there might be a slight chance of a small design change. I was so free to modify the pic of the stainless 4 a bit so everyone can see what a difference it would make. What a beauty! But see for yourself:

That Choil-less ESEE 4 looks amazing.
Man, it is definitely something ESEE should look into. A smaller knife loke the ESEE 3, which obviously will not be used for chopping, would benefit tremendously. It would make it slightly shorter and lighter (SLIGHTLY), which would make the knife easier to carry (especially for EDC).

I'm not sure why all the hate against choils.

Personally, I like them so I can choke up and do a bit of close up work. Particularly making fuzz sticks, stuff like that...and I can't recall a single situation I've been in where an extra 1" of blade would have made so much difference in the world.

Unless you're using it to saw a rope or something, I feel like a choil like that really shouldn't impede your working room much. And if it does...well, choke up on the choil maybe? :)

Then again, I'm also a guy who likes combo edges and I hear people gripe about serrations all the time.

In skinning and dressing game, I find that the choil can be a little annoying. It makes it harder and longer to do the task. If it is freezing cold, you don't want to spend extra time on dressing, and needless to say, nobody likes to get annoyed.
I also have no problems making fuzz sticks without a choil. When doing hard cutting, chocking up can be sometimes painful (the blade/choil is thinner than the handle). If you do have a choil, and want to do some hard cutting, you lose leverage by lengthening the distance between your hand and blade (cutting edge). That is why they never make bushcraft knives with choils.

I am not saying ESEE should ELIMINATE the choil from their models, but a choil-less ESEE 3 (or even 4) would have many advantages. MANY!

Cheers

Yeah but choils are nice for us big handed fellows to be able to get a good grip on the knife when doing finer tasks

Precisely why I like them, I have rather large hands...I'm not like a huge guy but i do wear XL gloves, it's mostly because I have pretty long fingers.

I can appreciate why you would like a choil-less blade though Razorsharp. Personally I don't hunt (don't have any problem with people who do RESPONSIBLY, just don't do it myself) but I guess I'm so used to doing hard cutting with choil I just haven't ever considered a blade without one though I have several.

Personally, a choil is a must have for me and a small line of serrations are a bonus but not necessity.

Sounds good to me!
