New project WWII MKII

Nice catch Dirtbiker! I saw it on the bay and thought about it, but they can really pile up:D I've got a horn handled version which appears made by the same outfit. I agree it's a private purchase/bazaar khuk. They were made by the truckload and seemed very popular with the Allied troops in CBI. The weight on yours is excellent. You should post up on IKRHS. Thanks for sharing.

Well I wimped out and took the easy route by blending in the handle and the tang. Came out looking nice.

Someone asked for comparison photos of an HI M43 and a WWII M43. My HI M43 is an older model made by Sher, at the time they were using 3 pins, now they only use 2.

And a Bura FF photo for Bawanna

You torture me with a smile on your face!

I think your project turned out very nice. That's probably exactly what I would have done. I think it looks great and turn out really good.

That Bura takes my breath away. It really does.

I lost out on a nice M43 Sunday too, I think our new friend in South America got it.

Those are right nice too.

I have my Ndoghouse Long Leaf at my desk today bonding and playing show and tell. I find holding it when I'm feeling blue brings me back to some semblance of life. Almost magical I think.

Great job DBer! Clean and simple! The wood looks really good! So you have a Bura FF too? That was me asking about the M43 differences. Are the spines about the same thickness? Balance points will probably be similar?

Cool Bawanna! I wish I could display mine at work for a day! If anyone here saw it on my desk they would scatter! They phreek out when I open a box with My Kag Kat:thumbup:

Everyone here is already leery of me and some are down right afraid! Mostly women around me but some of the officers too.
I don't know where it comes from, I'm a peace loving easy to get along kind of guy. Really.

I used to have a stand and I'd bring in different rifles and display them for a while. Got a new Deputy Chief liability worry wart and he didn't like the practice much. Now I have to leave my belt gun in the car too, I think he might be afraid too. He don't know about the ankle gun and that's all I have to say about that.

If you can manage to take them hoplophobics to the range for a day they can be totally cured. They never look at a gun the same way again. They are a safer person because of it as well. Thats all I better say about that.
ooo ooo ooo.. Aunti's online! Im outta here!

Most of those around here I would not want to be seen in public with, they belong in a circus. Me, them, gun at a range, not a good combination.

How do you know Auntie is on line? I'm looking, the water is red with frenzy but I don't see nothing.

Totally different. The WW2 M43 weighs 23oz and the HI one weighs 32oz. Old blade spine just over 1/4 inch vs just under 1/2 inch on the new one. New blade is a chopper and the old one is a fighter.

Shes gone! When your in the HI subforum or cantina you can scroll down to bottom and check whos online. Yep frenzy today but no bait in the water:confused:

Great! Thats what I was hoping to hear. Plus the handle on the HI is longer so that can shift more weight forward if needed! Thanks DBr Thats what I wanted to know:thumbup:

Another way to replace the pommel is to cast a pewter pommel in place.

Not that there's anything wrong with your bare-butt Khukuri.
That's a quick, somewhat easy, effective, and good way to solve the problem you had.

Gents, the first M43's to come from H.I. Looked and felt a lot closer to the WWII era ones. I would know, I owned one of the first. It was the 6th one that I saw from H.I. Pictures attached below. The Maker's mark was an Oil Lamp, can't remember who had that mark in 2001.

Notice the lines, the small handle with only 2 pines, and even though you can't see it, the spine is around 1/4" thick. It was light and Fast!! The Blade came from Nepal, went to Yangdu and Uncle Bill in Reno, To Canada, then down to Utah to me, then I sold it to someone back east. I think the Forum Member's name is Mike L., though I could be mistaken. It's been almost 12 years. Not sure how many hands it's passed through in the last few years.

Wish H.I. would make more like the ones made during WWII and back in 2001/2002.

That's beautiful. I'd love to see some of those as well. It looks alot like the Long Leaf in shape, short handle and stuff.
