So, I have been using a Nintendo DS case that I have been using for a few months now. I've had it in the back of my mind that I wanted something that would also have room for something to boil water and cook in. Also room for things like some cleenex, more pocket warmers things like that. So here is what I came home with 12 bux and Im good to go. :D

Here is what I wanted to fit in the case.

I got tired of tring to use tinfoil for boiling water, I've experimented with it a few times, and after folding it and storing it in a psk, micro holes always formed, and I could never keep the water in it, So I wanted a fool proof way to boil water.

And a comparison of what I used in the past (on the left)

You got any action photos with you wearing it? I've always liked this idea but don't really like wearing bulky stuff on my belt.

Ill get some up, I just ran out of battries.:o

Also, Im the same way, but to be honest its not bad, it covers a fair amount of room( I wear it on my left rear side) but It doesnt weigh much, mabye 15-17 Oz.

i too just bought a maxpedition M-4 today...

needed something smaller when i go on walkabouts.. when i go hiking i grab the maxpedition fatboy..

for coastal or beaches i grab my proteus psk.

:D

cheers

p.s. nice setup man

jca21, you wouldn't happen to have photos of the Proteus with gear would you? I have been looking at it, but being unable to put my hands on one to get an idea of what capabilities the bag has, I've been keeping it on a back burner for now.

Fonly, that's an excellent upgrade I think. I have an Eddie Bauer camera bag that I put the wifes PSK in. Has the shoulder strap and plenty of room for the basics that she requested.

I always look for good point-and-shoot camera cases in thrift stores and garage sales. You can get a nice case for $2 :) There are some cool ones by LowePro that have waterproof rain covers that pull out of the back. There are some camera sized waterproof fanny packs that work well too. You could haul water in one in a tight spot.

jca21, thanks for the link. Nice kit.

DaleW, we've got a couple of the lowepro bags. I use the 4 for my personal camera bag and if I remember correctly, the wife has a #3 stashed someplace where I won't find it.:D I just picked up a Minty Tamrac backpack that's photography oriented for $5.00 at an estate sale. It's gonna turn into my hiking PSK/camera pack. Even room for the tripod.

as a quick and simple suggestion... pack a dump pouch or large plastic bag or ditty bag or utility bag.. old sleeping sack cover.. whatever you got handy cause when you take all that stuff outta your pot so that you can boil water in it your bound with the possibility of loosing something.. especially at night-time and that thing be a crucial part of your kit...

stretch the bag over the mouth of the pot, dump contents into bag, sort later.

use pot to make a nice brew, without loosing anything.

just a suggestion

cheers

A PSK with a package of cappucino...there's a first for me. :)

Nice work. LowePro camerabags are pretty darn useful.

I got an Eagle Creek zippered envelope style bag that has a snap hook on it. It was designed for a travel accessory for toiletries and stuff that might leak. It isn't completely waterproof, but it is made from plastic with an embedded mesh-- pretty light and tough and highly water resistant. 99 cents at Goodwill, $10 at REI :)

It's weird, but Land O' Butter, of all companies, makes some great single package coffee mixes.

Don't discount the psychological side of your PSK. A good hot cup of brew with caffiene and sugar might get your head centered and save your bacon. Many disaster planning lists include things like family photos and religious texts for the same reason-- psychological comfort and the will to survive.

That makes sense. Keeping your head centered is far more important than all of the tools that you can stuff into a PSK.

Or put everything in the bag and then put the bag (with contents) into the pot.;)

Thought about this, but I mean the psk has form, and I have a Freezer ziplock thats got'en throwin' in there. But, as to the cappochino, I love that stuff, it has a long life, good solid package and I've gone threw lots of them, plus, one pack makes to cups (for me) Im also going to throw in some hard candies, I dont like taking up space for things like high energy bars, or anything other than small candies, becuase I would rather take the room to have water gear, then food. I mean a bar lasts a day, I can go alot longer on water.

I pack a small camera bag as small emergency 'possibles' kit when traveling. It normally serves as a first aid and sewing kit but it has also been pressed into use as a fishing kit.

And thats just it.

The thing I like most about this is its not only limited to the woods, I can take it where ever I go. That and its a good size, plus it blends in, everony have a camera, and everyone carries it. If SHTF, people wouldn't look twice, there would be lots of people with cameras.

eh... i was taking summer courses at university and this week was all exams and term papers... but now that i'm free for two weeks i get to go play in the woods with my toys :D

i generally travel around the lower mainland... interms of hiking.. when i go somewhere in which i dont wanna be disturbed i pack it on old dirt logging roads through the central interior or over on the island..

cheers.

p.s. hows north alberta anyways? :)
