This may be my last post on Blade Forums.
As I sit alone for 36 hours on the weekend; stare at a tv; look at old knives and other dangerous objects and try to figure it all out..I still get nowhere.. Thank You all so much for your friendship. Razorblade00:(

Razorblade - I do hope you stick about - and the 'HI Cantina' is more than just a group of people who fancy khukurees and other odd-shaped blades. I'm sure someone else could put it better than I can - but, there's a lot of fabulous people here, and a lot of us are going through/have gone through some pretty rough times (to put it mildly) and the regulars here are fantastic at lending 'moral support' or whatever one wants to call it.

hope to see you round,

brother B.

As Ben said, we all have our dents, dings and replacement parts. None of us are experts at fix-ups, nor can we promise expertise in curing woes. We have just one advantage, as a group - we know stuff CAN be fixed, because we have all benefitted. We do sometimes offer solutions, and they can be so damned funny that just the laughter will keep you going for a day or two. Every day you keep going is not the day they stopped you. Makes a stupid sort of sense.

Razorblade00, somtimes the Cantina and my dog are the ONLY things that make my day. Echo Walosi's and Beoram's words. As Uncle Bill says "Whats this have to do with khukuris? -everything!"

Where else can you go to learn and talk about so many interesting topics with a neat, eclectic people who respect everyone for who they are? Even nerdy "S" types like me who are usually ok to have around.

Beoram - Hi! Don't worry about the Gold Dollar label as a prerequisite for the photocopy of the herneuter knives. Just give me the word, and your physical address on my e-mail, and I'll airmail it to you. About the cigarettes, well, I thought they were very well-known in the US of A. They sound more American than the statue of liberty. Bet you're not a smoker.

BOERTJIE means, literally, "little Boer", originally "little farmer", or "small-time farmer". You are right, "-tjie" is the diminutive, but VERY frequently it is used in a figurative sense. Like, if you call a guy a pig, it's an insult. But you can call a child a "little pig" ("varkie", from "vark-tjie") and it would be endearing. "Boertjie" merely means someone who belongs to, or fervently associates himself with the people, history and culture of the Boer nation without necessarilly owning a farm or practicing farming.

Go well, all you guys out there, irrespective of your aches and pains! This is the greeting from me, an exasperating "C"-type who is nice to have around some of the time.

Actually I am a smoker

- I've just never heard of Gold Dollar cigarettes. Me, I'm surprised too - I know lots of types of cigarettes, but I generally smoke Peter Stokkobye (hand-rolling tobacco).

Ah, so I was right about -tjie as a diminutive -- good guess on my part :) 'Boor' used to mean "farmer" in English too, but the semantics shifted to mean "an uncouth person" (because farmers are unsophisticated?).

You know I couldn't find a single thing on the internet on herneuters  Rather strange, don't you think. Maybe it would be interesting for people to see what they look like - I'll email you with my address (just send it via inexpensive post). And I'll keep an eye out for Gold Dollar cigs.

cheers, B.

additional: can't find your email - you can email me and I'll respond with info.

Beoram - yeah, good guess on your part. I WAS wondering about the "Boor" origin. Too bad the semantics shifted. I suppose it was because farming was historically never regarded as an occupation for the well-to-do - merely recall the middle ages.

All facts considered, I'm not surprised that you couldn't find a single thing on the internet on herneuters. I don't think it strange at all.

You've got e-mail.

Regards.

Here's what I found on a search for herneuters on Google. The 1st URL has a pic of the pruning knives made there and pictured here if it works.:)

Edit.
I smoked for about 35 years and my parents smoked long before that and I have never seen any cigarettes called "Gold Dollar."
The only thing close may be the "Old Gold" cigarettes that it seems maybe had a picture of old gold dollars on the package.
I don't know if they are even made anymore. I don't recall seeing them for many years, but there was a period of time several years back that a lot of the old cigarettes either were quit being made and/or had their package designs changed. Lucky Strike being one of them. The old Lucky packages were green and red while the new ones were white and red.

I suppose so :) Thanks Yvsa :D

Johan - in view of this, do you still think it's worthwhile to send a xerox?

cheers, B.

Yvsa a Cherokee shaman? Mebbe, mebbe not. Whatever, he's hot stuff!

Beoram, I'll do it for you, bud. Expect the mail in about two weeks from now. Not all the herneuters were pruning knives. The pic posted by Yvsa came out very well indeed, but the pic I've got shows some other shapes too. If you post the pic after receiving it from me, the forumites will be able to see it too. It will complement Yvsa's pic.

Gold Dollar cigs: I even remember the advertisement "song" they sang over the radio to advertise Gold Dollar cigs when I was younger. "...smoke Gooooold Dollaaaaar...!" The pack had two gold "indian head" dollars on the label, one placed slightly over the other. I'd be very surprised if the brand was not true-blue American.

Yep this forum is great. It's ALL about khukuris!

Piping in here as another Americano smoker, never heard of gold dollar cigs, though the package sounds familiar. Then again Ive never been fussy with tobbaco, just cant real smokers anymore, havent smoked a roll-your own in years (generation cigarettes were always what they ended being when I smoked em), can only tolerate them strange light things (though I have no idea what the light aspect of them is actually supposed to do). Local switch on a brand name? Ive heard King Burger as a switch for Burger King in some countries, always strange how "American" things change once they take a flight outa country.

Horrors! I caught myself studying Yvsa's four khukuri swingers for a number of minutes. Found myself trying to analyse their movements. Left swinger not in sinc with the others. Seems to be the dominant swinger. As khukuris swing, they actually get shorter so as not to harm the neighboring swinger. Swingers' teeth get progressively whiter to the left, when they smile.

I must be losing my mind.

Relax, follow the swinging khukuris - you will remember nothing of this when you awake:

(hypnotic isn't it?)

Back around 1967 I was smoking "Old Gold" as my first regular brand, then went to Benson and Hedges later on til I up and quit 3 years ago next month.

Just guessing, Old Gold may have been put out by Phillip Morris or R.J. Reynolds. Also occasionally smoked "True Blue" when nothing else available - one of the first light cigarettes. Remember cutting their filters about 3/4ths off to get a real hit out of them. Even then filters were the bulk of the market.

No, Rusty - it would have been a blessing to forget. Fact is I still see them yellow dots rhythmically swinging, swinging, swinging... ZZZZZZZZ

They change into ravishing hula girls with grass skirts, keeping exact time with them khuks. Admit it! You can see it too!

This Gold Dollar controversy had me scanning the internet for a while, but all I could find was indications that the brand could possible be... wait for it: German! I'll have to get confirmation.
