Thats nice looking. I generally like a folder for a smaller blade, but I may pick one of those up! Thats a new one huh? Looks like the new style lanyard hole...

That's the new one's. For the lanyard, it's been squashed/tapered with ridging on the end, to make it different from the previous model. In fact, I did have to request the extra lanyard extension since a previous old-style satin rd4 didn't have the lanyard.

Justin did the red spacers, and apparantly, he's open to custom work as well - check out some the knives under his forums under KF.

I'd heard guys on the forum mention Justin's customer service, but I was beyond impressed. Seems like a super nice guy, and I feel real good having done business with an individual and not a "company." I might check out a custom down the road! Very reasonable prices too... Oh, I had seen in a thread before that the Ranger RD's "all come in the same length sheath," which Justin said is not true - they are the same sheath, but in appropriate lengths for each knife.

That RD4 looks sweet! Is that .25" stock? I wonder if he could make one in .188" or .15". To each his own but I personally don't care for extra thick short blades.

My recurve RD7 :D

Anybody got a clue or do I need to e-mail Ranger Knives ?

I got one for about 120 shipping included. It was alittle more expensive because it was custom to my specs. Email him, his prices are more than resonable for a custom knife.

He also said in the future (not sure when) he will add the rd4 to his regular line.

I'm almost ashamed to say this as a Ranger Knives fanboy but I like the old style better. Having said that, I am 100 % sure that Justin will make one using the old style if so requested.

Maybe someone can tell me what makes the new style better(the clip point, thumb serrations and the new pommel)?

My RD6 is ordered :D

And The Chef: Satin Finish is a 20$ extra.

As for the other question you might have, or pit man, or anybody. I had a lot of questions about RDs in the last weeks, I asked here, I emailed some members, and the fastest way I found to get an answer was actually to email Justin.

Personally, I like the looks of the new style better. But I don't think one is necessarily "better" than the other.

Justin's own words about the changes (from Knife Forums).

"Well lets see the blade shape went to more of a clip point for better penetration while stabbing and digging."
"The ones (serrations) on the pommel are indeed for better reverse grip retention."

I would say the thumb serrations are intended to give a better grip and the oval lanyard hole gives one more leeway to use something like the cow hitch in my picture.

Nothing against the RTAK, but why would you order one when you can get a Ranger RD9 for just a few bucks more with better steel and a maker who will make things right if something goes wrong.

I have an RTAK II and like the grip on it better than the Ranger RD for chopping - I have pretty large hands, and the RD handle isn't as forgiving if my hand slips forwards or backwards a little bit - I get pinched. THAT BEING SAID, I just ordered a BADASS Ranger RD4 - blue G10 scales w/ black spacers, Satin finish - gonna be bad! I really like the RD grip for a non-chopping blade - like my RD7 and incoming RD4 - I wouldn't change a thing about it for utiliy use. (Also, responding to a questions that was asked earlier - the price for the RD4 is the same as the RD6 - $90 - RD4 doesn't come with a sheath - satin finish is +$20). Also, I WILL be getting a custom RD9 before too long - with a longer grip so I have some "space" while I'm chopping down Giant Redwoods and stuff! I'm also going to get a lower hilt on there, and may just beef it up all around a little bit - wider blade, may even go a little bit thicker - 5/16 or something - when I DO get my custom (and Justin will be my go-to man), I'm gonna go all out! I'm gonna have leatherface do the sheath for the RD4 and the someday custom RD9. The Dogfather is on the way though, so I've gotta give it a month or three until I go getting another big chopper!
