New SAK

Outrider is the Best Vic, best choice of tools, I EDC one.

Good Choice,

RickJ

+1 on the Outrider. Here's some more pics of one. Sorry about the quality, I was under an unusual bulb.

I find it pretty fat compared to even the OHT, but it's got a great tool selection.
Beefy can be better sometimes.

I like it. Very similar to my Locksmith, which loses the scissor and gets a file. The Locksmith also has a liner lock (more or less) on the blade, as compared to the thumb slide thingy on the Outrider. Plus, the Outrider has a phillips that folds out 180 degree. I think I like yours better!

I carry the SAK's in a Belt sheath like the Buck folder sheath. This one is a bit big for the Pocket. I carry the Farmer in a sheath also.

jca21, cool

If it helps I can tell you that I got it in the UK [via BKCG] from Germany. Although strangely the sheath is marked 'Spain', but I'm guessin' that's because of the Boker Argentina connection. The sheath is a top quality job by any standard, and certainly for a factory. Many of the Bokers of a similar type in the US aren't 440c though, they are 440A.

Fatter? Hmmmm but its only a scissors layer thicker. I have an OHT and a Rucksack and am thinking about getting an Outrider.
The scissors are the thing i miss on the OHT and Rucksack.
How much bigger are the 111mm frame sized scissors compared to the 91mm frame size?
I'm just coming off a 2-3 year stretch of SAK/multitool addiction.
I've peaked out at over 50 SAKs and close to ten multis. Collecting wise i've mostly moved onto small fixed blades and lock blade folders (i still EDC SAK's and multi's though).
Even though the SAK/Multi buying urge has past the Outrider keeps calling to me..... "buy me buy me buy me i'm a lockblade Hunstman buy meeeeeee"
lol.

The scissors appear about the same size as the 91mm ones, but I don't have my Explorer handy to check this. IMHO, the Outrider is the ultimate SAK. I recently picked up a Farmer, because of all the ALOX hype I've been hearing. And the Farmer is not bad. Neither is the Explorer (my 1st SAK), or my Compact (my EDC around knife-sensitive types). But the Outrider has all the tools I want, in a large, very sturdy package. If it wasn't so fat, I'd EDC it everywhere. But it tends to be a little much in the pocket with tighter fitting pants (I wear loose-fitting jeans, so it works for me when I'm not at work). The only SAK I would consider the equal of the Outrider is the Hercules (Outrider, plus pliers).

The Explorer has a lot in common with the Outrider, in a smaller package. No saw, but has the magnifier. The saw is more handy for most of us. The blade is smaller and doesn't lock. But its my favorite SAK.

I noticed on ebay that the Outrider with red scales has a cork screw on the bottom, whereas the camo scaled version has a large phillips down there.

Yeah for me 1-3 layer SAKs seem about ideal for pocket carry.
However the 4 layer Huntsman is probably the SAK that over the years spent the most time in my pocket, but really 4 layers is the max i want to pocket carry.
For a year or so i carried a compact and a farmer (in separate pockets) because i wanted less than 4 layers per knife and i didn't want to give up the scissors or saw.
I'm planning my first SAK mod, basically a compact with an added scissors layer, a 3 layer that has 99% of the tools of the Huntsman.
The downside to the 111mm frame is that the large blade can't share a layer with a smaller tool.
Hmmmm so the Outrider has a philips in the same layer?
I wonder if you could ditch the canopener and bottleopener layer completely then shoehorn in a combo tool (bottle-opener/can-opener) to replace the philips.
Voila a three layer Outrider!
That would be sweet!
:)

I like my Outrider as an outdoor folder. It is too big for me for comfortable pants pocket carry, but I have a belt pouch for it. I have always thought of the Huntsman as the perfect combination of tools, and the Outrider is basically a giant, locking Huntsman.

Foilist,
Agreed. Wilderness carry is mostly the Outrider's domain for me. Although I've been EDC'ing it all day today, just on a whim to see how it would carry. In fairly loose fitting jeans, hanging from my belt (via lanyard) into my hip pocket, it hasn't been all that noticeable. It just tends to slide out of my pocket when I sit down. A bit heavier than my Compact, I'd say. Still, nice to know that I can do that when I want.
Tholiver,
Yes, the phillips is tucked under the scissors, they share a layer. The phillips is the smaller version, however. Not the beefier kind you find on some SAK's.
