New Scales for Byrd models?

I really really like my Meadowlarks and Cara Caras in FRN and G-10 scales. I believe that these models are fairly popular among many in and out of this forum. Do any of you know if there are plans to produce more of the Byrd models with FRN or G-10? Crossbill and Finch are ones that come to mind, off the bat.

The second a FRN/G10 handle comes out for a crossbill, will be the second I have my first byrd.

IMO the Flight is the most appealing (and attractive) knife in the Byrd line, but I simply don't like metal handled knives. Great candidate for G10 or even FRN. Make the blade flat ground while at it....

I would also love a Flight in G10 or FRN! Has anyone heard any news about new scales for Byrds?

byrd knife is planned to be a full line offering. Creating an entirely new line is a challenge. Most of what you are requesting is in the plan or in most cases, already in the works.

Quality will contantly improve. Designs will be refined. New designs will be introduced. New materials will be offered. New locks will be offered. Our intention is to offer an exciting line.

The "finch" is already available in FRN.

The G-10 Robin is available or will be very shortly.

The FRN Robin is in the works.

Raven & Crow in G-10 is in the works.

Collaborations are in the works.

Eric will design an FRN handle for the Flight, Crossbill & Pelican.

I think the "flatbyrd" is next to come out.

I just noticed the Byrd line and am stoked to pick one up. Can anyone comment on the quality of the blade metal? Since the Byrds are so small and easy to pocket, one (or more lol) would make a great EDC. How well do your Byrds stand up to daily use (not including The Byrds found on CD or cassette)?

edit:

Also, is this product description incorrect?

It says can be clipped TU or TD but the picture shows it can be clipped left or right handed but always TU.

Hadn't noticed that. Going by the pictures, the G10handles only offers left or right-hand carry tip-up, the FRN both left or right-hand and tip-up or tip-down, and the metalhandles offers only right-hand carry but both tip-up or tip-down. Guess that's another reason for me to choose FRN (the light weight appeals to me).

Btw, is it just me or do all of the Byrd models look to have extremely steep grind angles? I'm not sure if that's the proper term, but what I'm talking about is the angle at which the blade was created and sharpened. The angles on the Byrds all look more like wedges or chisels than knives. Will any of these knives be released with a flatter grind that precipitates better cutting by having a flatter angle that creates less friction as the knife is cutting through an object?

Hi Yacoub,

The blade steel, 8Cr13MoV, was selected for good performance. Quite respectable edge retention, good hardness, and acceptable corrosion resistance. I think most will find the steel acceptable.

Most byrds are hollow saber ground with a 30 - 35 degree edge grind. I don't think that is considered a "wide" angle. To which model in particular are you referring?
