New Scales for Byrd models?

Sal, it was just based on the pictures of the knives on the Spyderco website. They appear to be wider angles than perhaps they are. Could be the lighting. =)

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Hi Yacoub,

If you'll pardon the shameless plug, you really need to try a byrd to appreciate the offering.

And you make it a great Thanksgiving as well.

My G-10 Cara Cara's seem more in the 25 degree range, so they definately aren't to "steep". They perform great, and actually take a great edge at really reprofiled angles. Cliff Stamp lent me a Meadowlark regrond flat to the stone (7-8 degrees per side, maybe?), and it takes a really sharp, polished edge, and holds it well, too. The Byrd steel performs really good, as long as you aren't the type to never sharpen your knives, nothing can beat it for the money. The sabre grind of the Byrd is a little low, but then again that is easy enough to have a knifemaker or yourself thin it out if you wish. I am really looking forward to the flatbyrd, that is on my to buy list. You can't beat the value of a Byrd.

My Byrd Crow is my EDC knife!!! The Crow was used to pry (I know we shouldn't pry.....) open my window when I got locked out of my apartment. I also used my Byrd to cut numerous things and there isn't a scratch on the black coating. When I initially received it, i believed the coating would scratch off easily, boy was I wrong. This thing is built amazingly well =) My dream would be for this knife to have G-10 with a wire clip (please, please, please)

(as I've mentioned before) I love the G10 Cara Cara. I bought 6 more of them for Christmas presents and I can't wait to hear folks react to them. I'm doing my best to spread the word about Byrd, I think they're that good. FWIW, the fit and finish was almost perfect on every single G10 Cara Cara I've bought. Way better than they have a right to be for what I paid for them. Only one had a slight bit of lateral blade play, but I adjusted the pivot bolt and it cleared right up. The only thing I can bitch about is the plastic they're wrapped in tends to stick to the scales. Seems to clean off pretty easily, though.

As for the blade steel, I've found it to be much better than expected. Edge retention is excellent. Seems about as good as 154CM to me, though I know on paper it's not supposed to be.

I'm not sure if Sal has mentioned these models specifically, but I'd like to chime in for G10 Flights and Pelicans.

byrd knife is planned to be a full line offering. Creating an entirely new line is a challenge. Most of what you are requesting is in the plan or in most cases, already in the works.

Quality will contantly improve. Designs will be refined. New designs will be introduced. New materials will be offered. New locks will be offered. Our intention is to offer an exciting line.

The "finch" is already available in FRN.

The G-10 Robin is available or will be very shortly.

The FRN Robin is in the works.

Raven & Crow in G-10 is in the works.

Collaborations are in the works.

Eric will design an FRN handle for the Flight, Crossbill & Pelican.

I think the "flatbyrd" is next to come out.

I think this right here is the reason spyderco has moved it's way to number 1 in my wallet. Mr. Glesser, you are just so good at listening to your customers and responding appropriately.

Thanks for listening and I have already set aside the money for frn crossbill.
:)

Finally received my G-10 Cara Cara today ... that thing is huge  I hope G-10 Flight comes out soon 'cause that's going to be my next Byrd, unless the flat model catches my attention :)

I've got a G10 Cara Cara, and I absolutely love the thing. I'll eventually get any Byrd knife that comes out in G10. Great value for money and I love the feel of the G10.

Thanks Sal (I think you've heard me say that before :) )

Roger

Realised I was being a hypocrite so I now have a G10 Meadowlark on the way :o

I can't wait!!

What does FRN stand for? Also, It seems NGK is out of most of the Byrd line. Where else can I get Byrds for roughly the same price?
