New scales for my RAM

Looking at the custom RAMs inspired me to make some wood scales of my own. This one is a practice piece to see if I could do it. The next one(s) will be of nicer wood. I may also make a scale for the other side.

This scale is made of some scrap Padauk. It took a couple tries to get the holes drilled correctly. This particular piece has a small (fixable) crack, so I will be making another.

Please post some more pics when you finally get it completely done.

That's awesome. . the red looks really good on the black. Makes me want to throw on some nice buckeye burl on my kersahaw ram. maybe on my next day off. . .lol

wow, a complement from the designer himself. hey gavin, if you do decide, please post some sweet pics.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm probably going to use some lightly-figured cocobolo I have for the next scales. The color is very similar to that of the Padauk, but cocobolo is much more durable. After that, I'm not sure. When I get back to my real shop, (I'm on vacation at my family's house), I might try some tulipwood, snakewood, or maybe some Asian ebony. The sky's the limit if I decide to go with a stabilized wood.

wow... that looks great. The black and wood kinda reminds me of the Lone Wolf .45 knife. Regardless, nice work!
