New scales for my RAM

well. less of a reason to buy three and more of a reason to buy three of the PE BB model. i have already stated here that i love the RAM so much i will buy every PE variant produced. waiting for the coated models and the RAM III we have heard a bit about :)

i also need money to feed myself and gas money to get to work......hehe honestly i only ever really buy one of something and use it to death. though after spending time on here with the higher number production runs of things i feel like i should have a second so when the first one gives up its ghost, and they don't make them anymore...i still have a fresh one in the wings :)

Firebert , thanks for sharing your method.

I started on a quilted maple scale last night , got the rough shape down and I think I can probably finish it tonight. The part that makes me nervous is drilling the holes since thats the last step and if I mess up , I gotta start from scratch.
The thing is , I do not think I can do the clip side of the scale since I have no idea how I could get the rounded part where the pivot screw is , unless I just cut that completly out but then the pivot screw may sit too high ?
You did a great job on those , especially on the clip side where the lock release is , how did you make the little 'canoe' for the lock ?
I'm still looking around on websites for ideas on other materials to use in this venture.

If you want some wood , email me and I'll send you some. I've got Gabon ebony ,Cocobolo, Desert ironwood and so forth.

Once again , nice job. :D

That'll look really good in maple.

You are right that the screw sits too high without a spacer. I suppose you could cut the screw down...... but what I did was simply use a 3/16" (5/32" would be better) forstner bit and carefully countersink. The "canoe" was completely done by hand. After all, it's supposed to fit your finger. I just put a corner of the sandpaper on the tip of my finger and went at it. Make sure to make the grind even. I sanded the flats last to make the "canoe" stand out.

Wow , that totally looks like it was done with a bit of some sort , good work !

Finished these scales yesterday. They're going to a fellow forum member. I'm actually a little jealous.

These scales are made from a really nice piece of snakewood. I finished these to 8000 grit and they look amazing in person. It's interesting stuff to work with. It's so dense (s.g. 1.4), you have to use water cooling when you power sand or it scorches. I worked these on diamond lapidary equipment, and finished with lots of hand sanding.

how did you guess?
