New Scandi from Fiddleback Forge

great review Mist.. that is a beauty of a knife.. Andy is an amazing craftsman..

BTW, to speak of the differences, the Arete has a 0.1" longer blade that has a stouter/blunter point. There is also more protection for the fingers in the way of a small guard. Also, the Arete has a classic bushcraft handle shape rather than my handle ergo's. Although, lately, I've been making the Arete with my ergo's also.

Congrats Misty That is one great looking knife. I think I feel a little sick with jealousy. Not that I dont want you to have it, I just think I need to get on the ball and get some extra cash flowing Andy's way. Thanks for all the great pics and reviews.

Man that is nice  I keep wanting to get one of his new designs, but keep spending my cash before I can get one! I really like the way he does the dual scales, they are works of art in themselves.

Love the knife man. Once again Andy has done it again. I love the beauty mark as well.
I remember when your Bushfinger's natural micarta handle had that coloration.

Yo Mist, another great review.

Like you, I love Andy's treatment of O1, ;) ...just makes for a friggin' savage cutting tool.

O1 is only as good as it's HT, and the Fiddleback blades make it shine.

Thanks, glad you enjoy them Andy does some really nice work.

DAMNIT Mist. I am trying to pay bills

Hehehe, sorry bro :)

I know what you mean. I'd have a couple more if it weren't for having to catch up after some bills. He did a camp knife and comp. cutter in the same colors a while back and it was nearly more than I could take.

Yeah, I remember that too. I'm sure this one will age nicely too :)

Thanks Mike, glad you enjoyed it. O1 done well makes an awesome knife blade; Andy sure does O1 very well

Good looking knife mist. Now your BF has a BFF. :) I still like the shorter bolster on the BF though. Nice looking set.

Thanks, I think so too, and yes it does. I like the shorter bolster on the BF, but I think the longer one works with the shape on the handle of the KEB as well.

Great review.
There is an article on Andy Roy and Fiddleback Forge in the latest issue of Tactical Knives. Congrats to Andy.

Thank you, and thanks for reminding me that I need to pick up a copy and check that out. I forgot they were already out. Andy makes great knives.

Once you get a grip on a Fiddleback, you will get it. The handles always looks great, but somehow Andy has tapped into another level of organic fit. I love this knife, and have never seen Andy do a scandi grind on a 1/8" thick Nessmuk. Mine is a wood cutting machine!

For most, I guess the Nessmuk is thinner, and for food prep, slicing and such. The grind on mine is not the best for food prep, but it does slice and peel.

Never tried one of Andy's Nessmuks, but is interesting that Andy makes several different handle designs and I have yet to find one uncomfortable.

I got this one from Lee's Cutlery, cause it was different than any other I'd seen. I've looked through all the pics I could find, Fiddleback's website, and Andy's past work photo's, here on BF. None have that big of a handle, it's 9" OAL, 5" being handle.

Great review and pics. You've given me a couple ideas for things I can add to the Gravelle thread.

I really like how there is no wasted space between the edge and handle. That one looks like it would be perfect for notching.

Thanks bro, glad you enjoyed the post. I am looking forward to the progression of that thread.

It does handle really well, great for getting good force on whittling strokes and easily controllable.
