Hi guys,
I'm in again for some recommendations, this time I'm posting here on the Outdoor section, guess it's the appropriate place.
So I am currently itched by the idea of buying a new knife for camping/hiking. I don't really need it, but u know how it goes....sure u do
The knives I usually carry in the outdoors are Moras, or ESEE 3, or Izula 2 (with handle). I realized that lately I am kinda into smaller blades. I usually carry a folding saw (very rarely an axe/hatchet) so I won't need a knife for major wood processing, just for the "normal" range of outdoors/camp use. I know this new knife will hardly beat my Izula, but still I want something new.
I guess the "obvious" alternative would be the BK but I'd like something a bit different. Requirements are:
- short fixed blade (let's say 2,5" to 3")
- full tang
- handle (not a fan of paracord for handles, nor of "skeletonized" handles)
- price no higher than 50/60 usd (otherrwise my Izula would get upset)
- steel....well I can't be picky in that price range :D
So far, I have seen a few knives that could do:
- Kershaw Skinning 1080
http://www.kershawknives.com/productdetails.php?id=605&brand=kershaw
- Boker Plus Fitz
http://www.boker.de/us/fixed-blade-knife/boker-plus/tactical-knife/02BO278.html
- Muela Ibex Olive
http://www.boker.de/fahrtenmesser/muela/02MU021.html
Few examples to give an idea of what I'm looking for, so maybe someone here can help....thanks

Thanks for the reply. I had never seen the paklite...still I don't want a "skeleton" knife so I should look for a handle/scales, since Buck doesn't sell one.
Any other options? or reviews and opinions on the knives mentioned so far?

You could buy a Cold Steel Paring Knife and make a simple kydex sheath for it. They are thin and sharp and light and would make a great small utility blade for everything.

Check out Condor Tool & Knife ! I have the Basic Bushcraft Large & the Nessie & The Parang & Golok ! Hard to find a better knife for the Money spent ! Check with custom knife maker Mark Wohlwend in the makers section & see what he has up for sale now !

Oops sorry. Forgot it was a skeleton. Don't actually own one.

benchmark backpacker, CS finn bear, condor bushcraft, Helle Folkekniven, queen cutlery drop point hunter

should be able to pick up a used WM1 in that price range, if you're willing to spend $10-15 more could get one new

I'd also look at the Condors. I am sure there are a few in that size range. They come with pretty good sheaths, too.

Thanks to everybody. I will check those out (starting from Condors - I only know their larger knives) and see if something catches my eye....
Tha Falkniven sure looks like a good option, if I find one in that price range. And I will take a look in the knifemaker section, might be lucky.
I know most outdoor knives are usually bigger than what I'm looking for, but I will sure find something good with ur help.

The Condor Mini Bushlore just got on the list of candidates :-)
By the way, anyone here owns the 3 knives I mentioned in the first post?

A cut and paste of my mini review on the mini-bushlore. I posted it a couple months back on another forum.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just received my Mini-Bushlore this morning my first Condor product.

With my SAK for scale..

Fit and finish is pretty good for a knife in this price range. My hands run a smallish medium, and it isn't that bad a fit..

I was ready to sharpen it right away. However it took hair off my arm straight out of the box.. So I left it as is for now.

It is a cool, windy, overcast, misty day here but I wanted to give it a quick workout.

Cut a section of branch with my SAK...

And made a rough mini-spoon.

For its size it works rather well in my hand. I didn't notice any hot spots, and my hand doesn't ache. If you are in the market for an inexpensive pocket knife that doesn't fold, well give this one a try. I'll scrounge up a pocket sheath for this one. It might just become a carry knife to keep my SAK company.

One more thing. Though it wasn't that much wood work the edge held up fine. Still took hair off my arm.

A Bark River Gunny would be a good choice.

Although a basic Gunny with plain Micarta will run you a bit more than $60, but they are nice little field knives.

in the custom section, dfarmer had some nice little ones up a bit ago. I'm looking forward t getting one of his soon- great reputation!
