New small fixed blade for outdoors use

Now you have me looking all over at small fixed blades which seems to be my weakness!

I picked up a Spyderco Street Beat awhile ago, and it certainly fits your criteria. a H***uva little knife, VERY good ergonomics, excellent steel, holds a hair-popping edge forever

Tha Falkniven sure looks like a good option, if I find one in that price range.

i have a WM1 in 3G steel and it's an amazingly capaable little blade. i find it can handle a lot of tasks i'd otherwise instinctivly reach for a bigger blade to attempt.

Don't blame me for waking up the small fixed blade lure, I know it was inside of u way before my thread...
I was taking a look at Boker small fixed blades sold in the US (there are some differences between US and Europe catalog), and I found this Boker Plus PSK that looks attractive:

anyone ever seen/used/handled it? it does look nice to me, and the price is within range (the Boker Pry Mini looks awesome but it's way out of the budget)

Take a look at the Blind Horse Knives line of patch knives. I have one of their special editions and love it. Fits all of your criteria as well!

Frosty

Thanks for the suggestion, their Maverick Colt does fit the requirements and it's pretty close to the kind of knife I am looking for...

I have the Alpha Wolf Drop Point Hunter D2 - Suregrip by Knives of Alaska. It is a handy little knife in D2 steel, USA made, and just around $ 60+.

I had never seen any of those Knives of Alaska but I have to say they look very interesting...too bad they don't make a smaller blade (apart from the skinning blades), since I am looking for something of no more than 3"...thanks for the advice anyway!

You say you already carry a saw... So its safe to say you don't go around battoning things willy-nilly?

If that's the case, then why limit your options with a 'full tang' fixed blade? Lots of stick tang knives that would be more than durable enough to do what your asking. Plenty of good folding knives as well.

Honestly, an Opinel or a Douk Douk could last a lifetime for the tasks your proposing. You say you already carry Moras - I'm sure you know full well that they make smaller knives than the standard, as do all of the other Scandinavian manufacturers.

Actually, I carry a folding saw only if I plan to process alot of wood, otherwise I don't, so I need a knife that I can use for processing wood and other "not so light" tasks, and I want a fixed blade (I also carry a folder or a SAK). The full tang thing is for both solidity and looks (I find some full tang knives are awesome), even tho I know that a good stick tang could do the job too.
I do own a Mora (had 2 but I gave away the older one I had a couple of weeks ago), but I'm in search of a shorter blade (shortest Mora I've seen is no less than 3,5"), and since I am very happy with my ESEE blade for the outdoors, I thought this new knife would not be a scandi grind (even tho I have nothing against the scandi).

I have been watching for these to become "in stock" at knifecenter for a number of months. I have not found them in stock anywhere.

Another suggestion, Benchmade Activator,
Blade Length: 2 1/8 in.
Blade Thickness: 0.140"
Overall Length: 5 1/2 in.
Blade Material: D2 Tool Steel Full-Tang Blade
Blade Hardness: 59-61HRC
Blade Style: Drop-Point Utility
Weight: 2.40oz.
Sheath Material: Deep-Pocket Textured Black Leather Belt-Carry
You can get one for $ 70.12

Yeah, the Benchmade Activator (211) is a good one. It's well within your used price range, even new it's not a lot.

If you feel you need to "process wood", then by all means go full tang. The Small Bokers are a good recommendation, so would be the smaller Anza knives.

Ya, I could be processing wood, that's where the full tang thing came...and for looks, too.
I will check Anza knives (never seen one!)
Ya I'm getting more and more attracted to the small Boker's...Especially these:
http://www.boker.de/us/fixed-blade-knife/boker/hunting-outdoor-knife/120579M.html (ya, I know, it's a bit more than 3" but it looks so good I wouldn't mind)
http://www.boker.de/us/fixed-blade-knife/boker/hunting-outdoor-knife/120615.html
but again I have to deal with the budget so I might turn towards these ones:

The benchmade Activator seems like a good choice too.
