New smithy--New logo--Same maker

Congratulations on your new shop Fred! Changes like this always lead to new thoughts and approaches - which could mean fame! :D But my wishes follow others, take it easy moving stuff.

I dig the logo.

Good luck and keep us posted!

fred...thanks for explaining the thought behind your logo....makes sense now....i wouldn't change it either....hope u didn't take any offense...i was looking at it purely from a design point of view.....ryan

Absolutely no offense taken. I asked for your impression of the logo.
Which means exactly that.
Thanks for your input.
Fred
I wonder how it will look with your name silver instead of the usual etched black though. Your logo etches around the letters instead of etching the letters themselves. Know what I'm saying? May be really cool that way.

Thanks for pointing that out, it had not occurred to me that the lettering will be raised. Hmmm? I could move it to the top; I will give this some thought. Fred

Fred,
I like the logo as is. The oriental styling looks good.
Interestingly, I studied shorin ryu about 40 years ago under sensei Smith, who was at that time the only USA 7th dan, IIRC. I don't know if you know that the name (shorin) for Okinawan karate comes from the old Okinawan language, and means "Shaolin" . It thus translates as "small forest". I would assume shuri is some form of that word, perhaps americanized?Good news on the new shop, but lots of work ahead.
Stacy

My understanding is they were sister styles, but split early on and morphed into there own specific style with some basic differences. I know that Shorin ryu uses a C step movement which is a no no in the Shuri style.
I am not a style snob and believe good technique is just that; whatever the name of the style.

I am looking forward to the new shop but am somewhat dreading the move.

Fred

I think the Logo looks good. The real test is when it is added to steel ( things look different once etched to steel ). I think it will look even better once used. Looking at something on a white forum background does not really give you the depth you will get once it is put on a blade or sheath.

Just a noobie's thoughts ( in other words I know just enough to hurt myself :D )
