New Spyderco Matriarch (FRN, Plain edged Civilian)?

I plan on getting my black serrated Matriarch waved later this Summer.

Sal, you really ought to consider making a waved Matriarch . . . that would be a top seller.

That said, really looking forward to this, Do you think you can swap handles with different colored enduras??

You can still find original Matriarchs in the $85 - $150 range, depending on condition. I got a great deal on a used one, but NIB is available if you want to pay collector prices for one.

I'll wave em for you!

I'm not one to really go for how a blade *looks*, but I find this design of blade in FFG seems to look a little awkward. Seems to flow much better with the original saber type grind.

The Matriarch uses the older Gen III Endura handle, so the pivot is a pin, not really made for blade swapping. Blade length should be just under 4", since that's about all the blade you can shoehorn into that handle. I'm looking forward to this one as well.

Perfect. Personally I think a plain edge is better for this type of knife, so an excellent choice.

The handle color is not my cup of tea, but I guess that’s irrelevant since I’m going to buy one as a collectors item. For it’s intended use brown makes sense.

I don’t think a wave is a particular good function on a Civilian type of knife. I always feel that under stress a lot of things might go wrong while opening a waved knife.

Nope. The barrel bolt clip of the Gen III handle is tip up only. Not my personal preference, but I can handle it.

That's proof Sal figured somebody would wave one.

I love the brown....We all have a million black knives, its nice to see another color. Of course I do have a phecal phetish ....

I love my Spydies - but what does one do with this one, other than slit the throat of an Eastern block counter-intelligence agent on a cold, darkened Leningrad street at 2 a.m.?

Matriarch is not designed to kill. It is designed to cripple, maim, and generally ruin peoples' day. It works extremely well in this capacity.

Not that I dislike the brown, but for it to be the sole color of a knife marketed towards women seems a bit strange.

Damn. I thought it was specially designed for harvesting mushrooms. ;)

The Civilian was designed as a last-ditch slash-and-run self defense weapon for deep cover LEOs (DEA if I recall correctly) with little or no knife combat training in situations where they couldn't carry a gun. The Matriarch is a slightly smaller version, legal in more places (for example, here where I live. We have a 4" max blade length) for the same design purpose. In spite of the warnings about how thin the blade is and how it is not meant for utility use, I'd be willing to bet I carry and use knives with thinner blades every day.
