new spyderco military

Good choice.
The handle is big, the blade is long, and the whole thing is light and easy to carry.
I can't convince myself to EDC anything else.

D3/se I asked STR about the vertical blade play on the P-Mil. re: the comp. lock. Go to his web page and read his response. It's very interesting.

Just got my D2 Millie this evening.

W-O-W. Just awesome. It's been years since I've owned a Military, as I typically don't carry or have much of a use for folders this size, but in CPM D2 and the Foliage Green G-10, I couldn't resist.

It will likely be a safe queen, but I'm already looking for "justifications" to EDC the thing. Maybe it'll become my go-to weekender. :D

About time Morimotom:). Good to see you've come to your senses;). Check out the Paramilitary, the Compression Lock is pure genius.

Play with it in the kitchen. It's practically a carving knife. :D

I finally got an S30V Millie shortly before the BG42 came out, so I got one of them, too. Haven't had a chance to use it. The S30V is magic. I accidentally chopped into a steel pole with it and rolled the edge slightly. Quick fix on the Sharpmaker and there's no sign of the damage.

I like big knives. Many of them are too big for comfortable carry. The Military fits any time, any place, slipped into a back pocket.

Thanx much for the kind words Leroy, and welcome to the Spyderco forum.

We hope you continue to enjoy your knife. The model you have is made with Crucible's experimental CPM-D2. We've not had the opportunity to make direct tests, but the CPM material should out-perform ingot D2.

he called me leroy!! :p

actually, my name is mark, but thx for the reply.

i took the mili out camping last week. didnt use it much, but carried it around and cut some cord and other little stuff. very impressed with the ergos and slim, almost unoticeable, carriability.

excellent design. simple and practical. large enough to be useful outdoors, small enough not to get in the way. and doesnt break the bank!

i am satisfied, to say the least, and anticipate more spydies in my collection soon.

LEROY JENKINS hahaha

i considered the millie but bought a zt0200 instead, all these threads are making me think maybe i made the wrong choice???

I've got both the Military and ZT 200. Two VERY different knives. The ZT 200 is massively strong, exotic blade shape, great ergonomics. The Military is much more user-friendly: also a great grip, but with a more normal, general-purpose blade, and it is so thin, it can tuck in just about anywhere.

Sal,

I was reading another thread, and you were talking about an S90V version of the Millie out now, Is this True? of am I confused?

RickJ

True!!!!!!!!!!
The Millie with S90V blade and carbon fiber scales is coming soon!:D

I've been carrying an Paramilitary now for almost a year and absolutely love it, I was a little skeptical about the compression lock, but now I am wishing the Military came with a compression lock, it is absolutely rock-solid. Does anyone know if there has ever been talk of releasing a compression-lock version of the Military?

i think the next version of the millie may be released with the stop-lock

AAAAGH! Just say no to safe queens! Friends don't let friends have safe queens.
If you use it on weekends I bet you will no longer have a safe queen. It is one of the best knives I have ever owned. Great ergos, great shape, carries smaller than many knives that actually are smaller. I got the BG 42 about 6 months ago, and it does everything I need it to quite well. I didn't think I needed another until my son got me the S30V model. Now I have one for each front pocket!

I often carry my ZT 0200 on one side, Millie on the other, especially camping.

Mori- I mean Leeroy :D , good acquisition. You'll enjoy it. Hope this makes you look at more Spydercos in the future. It is one of the 2 brands that I purchase from often.

LEEEEEROOOOOY! Look at that P-Mil., next. Had NO doubt that you'd like the Millie.

Uh, thanks! (I think....)

Work in an office, so unfortunately, daily carry of anything near the Military's size is totally impractical. (Unless I toss it in my laptop bag just to have it with me.)

I've been at this madness about a decade now, so no need to sell me on how nice the vast majority of Spyderco's hardware is...I simply just can't make the same daily use of the Military like some others can...and if that makes it a "safe queen", I'm perfectly ok with that, as I still enjoy owning it regardless.

I have plenty of others that see regular use, they're just not as large as the Millie. No biggie. Not all of us can keep a large folder clipped into a pair of Dockers. Doesn't mean I can't appreciate the design and materials....just means that something like the Viele 2 dropped into my pocket is far more useful to me personally day in and day out.

Kudos to Spyderco for producing a diverse enough line to keep us all happy. :D

Actually, I understood with my limited knowledge that a "safe queen" was something you purchased and never used, just took it out everyone once in a while to hold it or show it to friends so they could ooh and ahh over it, tell you how pretty it was before you put it it away again. I understand collecting some things, such as stamps, coins, dolls, even NASCAR plates . I have several knives which I use weekends only, but I don't consider them "safe queens".
I understood what you meant, just trying to keep it light. :)
